Default Tour-pak solo set up 2015 FLHTK

Hope this hasn't been covered before, but I've searched the forum and came up with no matches.

I've searched the latest HD parts and accessories catalog trying to find out if it is possible to use the stock top-box on a 2015 Ultra Limited FLHTK for a solo set up.

To clarify, the catalog indicates that a number of touring models can move the top-box way forward so that it sits where the pillion usually sits and the rider can use the back rest. I know this requires a solo seat and a detachables kit, but it's almost impossible to find out from the catalog if the kit for other touring models with the same chassis will work with the 2015 FLHTK.

Can this be done? If not, what are the obstacles?

If it can be done, and if anyone has done this I'd really greatly appreciate a list of the kits/parts required for the mounting hardware and the other bits and pieces to relocate the top box and the antennas etc. Any photos would be great to look at as well!

Much appreciated!

to start, you're gonna need to get the solo tourpack mount.

Thanks for that but one of my first problems is that the 2015 FLHTK is not listed as one of the models this item will fit.

The catalog says even if you buy this solo mounting rack, the stock Tour-pak needs Tour-pak Luggage Conversion Kit 53000291A.

The 53000291A kit contains docking hardware, antenna relocation kit, turn signal relocation kit and guess what? .... a two-up mounting rack - which I don't need because I want to mount as a solo.

I agree, it would be nice if they offered the relocation kit as either two up or solo setup. Since I already had the two up tour-pak relocation kit installed, I ended up spending the additional $171 for the solo detachable mount for the solo setup. I did not compare the individual prices vs kit prices originally but since I was all in with the two up kit, spent the additional $171 for the solo detachable mount. Looking back over the past year, 75% of the time was without tour-pak and 25% with the solo setup. For me, having the weight of the tour-pak further forward when riding solo makes the experience of the long long trips even more enjoyable.

When my wife starts taking trips with me again, I will have the flexibility to swap back to the two up mount for the tour pak. I know that does not answer your question but that is how I ended up with the solo setup. Here are a couple pictures you asked for.

Thanks 2015 Ultra Limited. So you did not have to change any docking hardware changing from the two up set up to the solo? That is good news for a start.

I totally get what you say about enjoying touring once you centralise the load more by moving the tour pack forward. Coming off a Street Glide, I really want the quickest way to get the stripped down look, and then convert back to full tourer just as quickly. Unfortunately, my partner can't ride with me so that's one thing I don't need to consider.

I would still like to know if there's a separate parts list so I can get the solo set up without doubling up on parts purchase.

That is correct. Since I already had the two up relocation installed, the only additional purchase I made was the part the number of the solo mount rack (link in previous post is where I purchased mine). Once the solo mount rack arrived, remove the 4 bolts that hold the two up mount rack to the tour-pak and then install the solo mount rack with the 4 bolts. Prior to doing this though, test fit the solo bracket to the 4 point mounting assembly so you are not messing with it with the addition weight of the tour-pak. For the 4 point docking mounts, there are black pvc "cam's" that the solo mount attaches to. They are NOT perfectly round and have a solid line marking the tallest point. For the two up mount, the back points need to have the line pointing towards the back of the bike for easier fitment. For the solo mount, the two front points have the lines pointing straight up (as the front of the mount actually uses the rear shocks as its contact and the rear of the mount connects with the two points closets to the seat). If you get to this point and having issues, just pm me.

Look under the "more info" tab for the instruction .pdf file for the two-up detachable kit as this is where I obtained most of the part numbers below:

Better price: Two-up Detachable Kit: 53000291A $464

Solo mount link provided in previous post.

To answer your earlier question, I will try to post all the parts if you were to put this package together on your own for exactly what you want to save you some $$ as well as some options on whether FM reception is a big deal for you or aesthetics's of the license plate holder. Please double check all these parts before you make your purchase as I would not want to lead you down the wrong path. I use BoardTrackerHarleyOnline as was recommended here on the forum early on but you can see so many price comparisons from other HD merchants.

You will need a license plate relocation mount as the plate is secured to the tour-pak. This is the most disappointing part of the kit. This is very cheaply stamped out and if you can go with another option, I would. It cost $68 and looks like it is $6.80 when on the bike. I have a chrome plate cover over the plate and then have it under a quick detachable luggage rack to hide how embarrassing it looks and is made.

License Plate: 67900167 $68

4-Point Docking Hardware Kit: 52300353 $130
http://www.boardtrackerharleyonline....e-kit-52300353

Do you have the stock stereo setup or have you added an amp? If stock, I would suggest using the HD or similar hidden antenna products (I have tried many) as I did not have any reception issues with the tour-pak removed and stock stereo setup using the HD hidden fairing antenna. Once I added an amp, I lost 90% of the reception and worked the the vender extensively to try to get it back for several months trying various options. I ended up going with XM module in the end (which has nothing to do with tour-pak relocations kit) but some folks do not like the look of the am/fm antenna sticking out the back. That is not me, if I could get FM with the antenna installed, I would. Here are the parts you would need for the AM/FM kits:

JOINT ASSY, ANTENNA - 76354-00 $5.25
http://www.boardtrackerharleyonline....tenna-76354-00

CABLE EXTENSION,AM/FM ANTENNA - 69200295 $10.00
http://www.boardtrackerharleyonline....tenna-69200295

SCREW - 3140 $2.42
http://www.boardtrackerharleyonline....son/screw-3140

LOCKWASHER - 7129 $0.85
http://www.boardtrackerharleyonline....ockwasher-7129

NUT, HEX - 76353-00 $1.24 (need 2 each for a total of $2.48)
http://www.boardtrackerharleyonline....t-hex-76353-00

ANTENNA BRACKET - 76000309 $34.00
http://www.boardtrackerharleyonline....acket-76000309

If you could go the XM "like" route, you could save yourself the headache of chasing FM reception should you have an amp and encounter this issue. Here is the link for North America users.

Boom! Audio SiriusXM Satellite Radio Kit-76000351 $325.00

http://www.boardtrackerharleyonline....o-kit-76000351

Since you have a Limited, the one thing the kit does NOT come with is any accommodation for your CB option. If you use your CB and want to continue to use it without the tour-pak, you will need to purchase this kit:

CB Antenna Relocation Kit-76000308 $57.00

http://www.boardtrackerharleyonline....n-kit-76000308

With the tour-pak removed, you loose your "run/turn/brake" lights, so the kits provides these:

Electra Glo LED Saddlebag Run/Brake/Turn Lamp-Chrome Housing/Red Lens-67800241A $187.00

http://www.boardtrackerharleyonline....lens-67800241a

Note: If you are buying this in pieces, you could order these with grey lens vice the red under a different part number. (Same goes with the chrome hardware, HD also sells the 4 point docking setup in black).

I am not sure of your local laws as far a angle of view / vision of the turn signals but this kit should suffice. I have seen folks forgo these lights and use something like this:

FillerZ $249.95
https://www.customdynamics.com/custo...cs_fillerz.htm

Note: If you use ONLY the insert filler type LED's, the field or angle of view of the turn signals will be restricted a bit by the saddlebags. I will attach a couple pictures to point out how the inserts are hidden from a full field of vision. There are other led inserts on the market and HD even came out with their own version as well. Search some of the threads here for various options. For me, I used the Electra Glo that came with the kit as well as FillerZ inserts, plus the BAL-1 http://www.brightasslights.com/site/...art&Itemid=111 fender brake light (that a buddy gave me when he traded in is '12 Limited). Needless to say, with the tour-pak mounted, it is bright.

I hope this helps in narrowing down which way to go. Good luck!

I have done what was said above. I will add that, if you do not care about running without the tour pack, you have cheaper options.

If your desire is to just leave the trunk on, in either 2 up or solo and not ever remove it. All you would need is the docking hardware, 2up and solo racks. If you always run with the trunk on in either location, there is no need for turn signals, license plate relocation or antenna relocation. You would just create a license bracket that mounted under the tour pack.

I did the solo on my 2014 Limited. Just bought separately the parts I needed. As usual, HD says stuff won't fit when it really does. If there is ANY difficulty in making things work they back off completely.

You will find the bag lids have to be handled carefully when opening to clear solo tour pack. Not really one handed operation or done when sitting in seat.

I went back to two-up position because of the gymnastics required to mount/dismount bike with pack in solo position. Aggravated my sciatica.

Do not notice any difference in handling with pack forward or back. Bike was designed to operate with pack back.

My wife has NEVER ridden with me in the 34 years we've been together. Sometimes absence makes the heart grow fonder...

Not trying to tell you how to mount/ dismount the bike, but i will say; when the trunk is in solo mode, I stand on the right floorboard and step over. It's a lot easier than trying to throw a leg over the tour pack.
