Default Street Glide vs. Ultra

Man, I have been back and forth 100 times. I started out wanting an Ultra, negotiated a price with the dealer, and then started to second guess myself... I began looking at the 07 SG and just loved the way it looks... I convinced myself that I didn't need all of the "extras" that the Ultra came with and go for the SG. I called the dealer and put a deposit on the SG.

Then I started adding a few "extras" that I wanted. Sissy bar/Pad for the little woman, Cruise Control for me, Passing lamp kit, etc. Before I knew it, I was spending more than I would have spent for a brand new Ultrawhere all of those things come standard! Arghhh..

So I called my now very frustrated dealer and asked him to switch my deposit over to a new Red/Black Ultra. I would like to know what someone else requested in a different thread... Is there a way to make the tour pak a quick detach setup so that I can remove it when I don't have a passenger or need the trunk?

I have an 06 SG and love it, BUT the little lady was eyeballing the passenger seat on an Ultra this weekend. I started thinking of my options and decided to order the King tour pack w/ matching SG backrest pad, luggage rack for the top, Sundowner seat, detatchable rack w/ docking hdwr, antenna relocator kit and vented lowers. I alreadyhave cruise and rider backrest. A little over $1900 delivered. I would probably take a bigger hit trading it in, so this seems like the better deal. I can still take it all off when not taking a roadie. We'll see. I haven't ordered yet, just priced it out from Chicago H-D and Zanotti's

Go with the Ultra! Someone sells the quick detach for the tourpack (Kuryakyn or Harley). I have an 06 and I was in the same situation with the RG vs the Ultra. Decicded on the Ultra and don't regret it one bit.

I have an SG and love it but I ride solo almost always. If I took theole lady out all the time I would get an Ultra. Besides where are you going to put all her crap?

With the extras you are putting on you are almost turning it into an Ultra anyway. Go Ultra.

If you ride two-up, get the Ultra. If not, consider the SG and customize it. First things to do are to replace the 12" shocks, which most find bone-jarring at times, and install a cruise control.

I'd go with the ULTRA.

As stated... you can get the detach tour pack to remove the tour pack and if you do a lot of solo riding I'd probably get a different saddle so the rear portion isn't so 'thick and bulky'. Only thing you will probably want to do is have an internal fairing antenna put in so when the TourPack isn't being used and off the bike you can still have full access to your radio stations.

I think it is cheaper in the long run to get the ultra and take stuff off for a SG look/feel than it is to have a SG and put tour pack, touring seat, lower fairings...etc to make it like an Ultra.

Probably depends on how often she will be riding

For riding 2 up, Ultra would be the way to go.

Like everyone else... 2-up.. Ultra is the only way to go. I've spoiled my wife with mine. We went to the Hawaii HOG rally last October, and rented a SG. She was literally crying after about 6 hours on that skinny, hard seat, and no backrest.

OR...... you COULD always buy BOTH!!
