Question Security Systems Versus Firearms

So I have watched this dumb commercial a couple of times, they are selling home security systems.A woman and her kids,a big ugly thug kicks the door in,the woman runs upstairs and grabs the phone and calls the security company. The security guy springs into action and dispatches a call to the police who arrive quickly, all is well.Come on.Give me a break! In real life the scumbag junky (whos face she has seen) would have clubbed her down and done whatever he wanted to her and the kids.Criminals who commit home invasions are desperate and cruel and many times rapists.I would rather my wife protect herself and my kids with a firearm of her choice and use the phone to call an ambulance or 911.If you have the money to install an elaborate, monitored system fine, just don't depend on it to actually PROTECT you or your family from harm.

I agree.

What I see missing in those “scare tactic” commercials: metal security doors, K-9’s and firearms.

What I see missing is the hour or 2 it takes the rent a cops to get there. Even the police take several minutes or more. Security systems are good for alerting you and alerting someone else if you aren't there. The police are for investigating and punishing after the fact. But only YOU can defend your self and prevent something from happening.

She didn't call the security company, they called her. If she doesn't answer the phone they call the cops and they come right away.

I know. I have one installed at my business and it's gone off a couple of times because of storms. I get a call, tell them noone should be there and the cops get there before I do. I'm 12 mins away.

If the bad guys burglarize a business after it is closed and no one is there that is one thing, if it is a home invasion that is something else. Home invasions are quite often very violent and even if the police arrive in less than 10 min. it could be too late. A security system should only be part of a home defense / security plan. The Cavalry arriving just in the nick of time to save the hapless victims works great in the movies. However, in the real world it is up to the individual to provide for his / her own defense. Have a plan, teach each member of the family to safely handle and shoot a firearm. Practice with those firearms and do it often. Do not depend on someone else to save you from the bad guys, that’s your job.

Right, thats a business, how long will it take a scumbag to hurt or kill you if he/they are desperate enough to smash the door in and you are looking right in their face.2 minutes,4,6? Plenty of time there to get away.I'm pretty sure a lot of places in the country for instance would be lucky to see law enforcement in less than 20 minutes.I just realized after I posted this that Arcane posted more or less the same thing.

I'm not against security systems. I see them as part of a larger system that includes two dogs with a combined weight of 190lbs., guns and most importantly common sense.

The concern I have with ads like this is that they can give the impression of ‘safety.’
I’d love to see a backlash from women who own guns on this sort of rubbish.
