It is a V-Twin with hydraulic lifters, overhead valves and pushrods. Valve train noise varies. More on some. My 07 Ultra sounds like a haybaler. 12,000 miles.

My "07 Ultra sounded like a haybailer from 0 miles up to 17k when I was finally able to get rid of it. My "08 Ultra is not bad, but I don't have but 6k on it.

U got 3 choices:

#1. Live with it and understand that is the way that it is.
#2. Spend some money on it and try to fix it, but understand it's a crap shoot.
#3. Take it to a dealer, raise he!!, cuss and stomp around, demand that it be fixed and threaten to call your lawyer. After all this, just accept their answer which is "that's normal" and go back to #1.

Are you running with a wind shield? They will amplify any valve train noise twice over.

Is valvetrain noise on a Harley something like a bell ringing? My buddy thinks my noise is valvetrain, but being that is sounds like a bell jingling I am not sure.

How long has your bell been ringing? A loose compensator nut can sometimes manifest itself as bell-ringing when the rotor flops around. If it is, and it it has been that loose for some length of time....you may already have done a few hundred dollars worth of damage. If it's been making this noise for quite some time....likely something else, because if it makes the noise long enough and is a loose comp-nut, it will eventually chew-up your rotor teeth and the magnets on the rotor will bang on the stator if things get too loose and you will start to see it in the charging system............................if it holds together that long.
