Concerning the rear fender … agreed, locating an original will be a challenge considering the limited # made. Best play may be finding a black one in good condition and adding the orange and pinstripes. Certainly rideable the way it is, but noticeable if you want to run with a solo seat.
I'm also looking for the correct air cleaner cover insert ... should read Sportster 1100 Evolution

If you've one sitting around and want to sell it please give me a shout.

Hey Guys … just a quick update.

Due to several other projects and nasty weather, I have not yet delved into this Sportster.

However, thanks to EBay and Craigslist, I did acquire a number of OEM parts needed for the project:

• Stock OEM seat
• Stock air cleaner backing plate
• OEM air cleaner insert (Sportster 1100 Evolution)
• Stock exhaust pipes, mufflers and heat shields

I've determined the rocker boxes are leaking, and have secured a fresh set of Cometic gaskets. Also bad are the riser bushings. Easy to correct once I buy new polyurethane units for replacement.

What I still hope to find is a correct OEM rear fender. The existing is original, but has rust under the seat. Long shot that I will find considering the limited number of these bikes produced … however, if you do know of one available to purchase please give me a shout. Attached is a pic of the bugger. I’ll send updates as works proceeds.

Peace & Love … Peace & Love

Default Rear Fender

Hello,
I have a 1987 Sportster 1100 Anniversary Edition. It is #6 of 650. I am a little torn. I really want to turn it into a bobber but I see that people really like the stock bike. What parts are you still looking for if I decide to chop it?

I’ve not yet decided what to do with this bike … likely sell it. But I may be interested in buying your fenders. So let me know what you plan to do. Thx

Nice find. That thing appears to be in great "survivor" condition. I wouldn't change a thing.

Update - Just sold the '87 Sportster to a nice local guy. I had fun collecting the necessary parts and doing the work, but I'm glad to see this bike going to a good home.

I also own this bike. I bought mine about 7 years ago it is #4 out of 650. I love it it's a sweet ride but very hard to find original parts I wish you luck and enjoy your ride that is if you still own it. I just noticed this post is a little old lol! and I would also be interested in any fenders etc that are still in decent shape. Thanks all!

QUOTE=run1fsr;12219779]Cool find … so I snagged it. Runs great, but needs some TLC.

1987 Sportster 1100 Anniversary Edition #178 of 650 produced.

She is all stock except for exhaust and a few miscellaneous pieces.

The rear fender is rusted under the seat. If anyone has a matching rear fender (Black & Orange) to sell please let me know. Thx[/QUOTE]
