Default Nightster Wiring Harness on a 08' 1200XL

Has anyone tackled putting a Nightster brake light wiring harness on a 1200XL?

Part of my winter project this winter is to take the stock fender off and get the license plate and taillight holes patched and painted. Then rewiring/installing the Nightster harness to turn my rear signal lights into brake lights as well.
Is it difficult? Any tips and tricks are welcomed.
Thanks in advance!

It should be easy, the main wire harness is the same for all Sporties.

You don't need a Nightster wiring harness. I just bought one for my 2003 XL1200C to turn my turn signals in to brake/run/stop lights. Just plugs in. Comes with red lenses...I'm doing the same thing with the fender on that bike.

i bought the light module from the nightster along with the brake light wiring, ialso changed out the rear tail light sockets to run the dual filament bulbs. the whole job was pretty easy, and i think the whole thing cost around 100 dollars or so

It doesn't have to be that difficult or expensive. Go to your local HD dealership & just ask em. What I used was part #69462-06A (part # for yours may be different). Price was $57.95 but mine was on sale for around 40 bucks. It's a plug in module that converts your stock turn signals to run/brake & turn signals just like the Nightster. All you need to do is plug it in & change out the lenses with the red lenses that come with the kit. The whole deal takes about 10 minutes.

"mreed" is correct. It's very simple and cheap to do. Just go to your local dealer and ask for the kit.

Well I'm glad I posted this question and you answered. The dealer told me I would have to purchase a $300-$400 wiring harness to get this job done. I will look into this kit. I take it you are using this kit?

Yes. On a 2003 XL1200C. I'm doing the same exact thing to the rear fender that you plan on doing by shaving the tail light & plate mount holes.

If your HD dealership doesn't know what it is then you should call around. Or call J&P Cycles. ( jpcycles.com ) they will definitely have it.

Had tge dealer swap puit the low rear fender for the nighster fender before I took delivery. There is a modual that converts the rear center light to turn signal break lights. It was easy, I didn't do a thing.
