Patience + Craigslist = New Harley. You can find pretty much exactly what you want for the price you want *IF* you take your time scouting out craigslist. I spent a good 4 months looking at all the craigslist listings for all the cities in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, & Michigan, & got myself an '04 883C for $3700. There always seems to be at least one dude who bought a sporty during a midlife crisis & found they don't like/are afraid of motorcycles. Hope you find the bike you want.
The prices they post on Craigslist are ASKING prices, and there are a lot of people out there that are under the delusion that it's still 1995 when you had to order a new Harley and wait months for it.
Yes Harley's still hold their value better than other brands but there are a lot of sellers who are just living in a fantasy world when pricing their bikes for sale.
There are a lot of used Sportsters out there and deals to be had....be patient.
That being said, don't be afraid of a carbed bike.
I still miss my 04 1200R that I traded in on the Fat Bob.
It was carbed bike and it ran like a raped elephant after it cleared it's throat and warmed up..
Carbs are cheaper and easier to tune when doing a stage 1 and I think they give a bike more personality than an FI bike.

Hey guys, I didn't realize you were actually offering those deals. Unfortunately, I can't afford anything right now. The soonest I will be buying a bike is next spring. I'm just doing myresearch so I don't regret anything later on. Sorry if I was misunderstood.
I do realize that comparing a 1200 Harley to a 650 Yamaha is really not even a comparison of quality and power, but I was comparing prices, because I know I couldn't afford any foreign bike over 1000cc's.
So maybe getting an 07' 1200 for under $7,000 isn't out of the question?
Gengras East Hartford in CT had 4 sportsters at one point under $7000. In fact they had an 07 for $6400 with 3200 miles on it! I was trying to buy one but by the time i had a deposit they sold at auction. Ended up with a leftover 08 nightster instead for fairly cheap.
Yeah some people think they have a gold mine-not a bike LOL! I was reading the local paper and seen a 06 1200 with lot of extras for $13K I almost feel out of my seat, that bike was not near that new. There was also a earley 90's 1200 in the same paper for like $7K WTF? are these jokers thining?. If i sold my bike I would only ask like $8500 and it's a numbered bike and clean and modded out nicely. hang in there and shop around-this is the time of year to get the deals in half the counrty.

Hi everyone. I'm a little depressed because I found out used Sportsters weren't as cheap as I thought they were, as well as Dyna Super Glides. I really want a Harley, especially a Super Glide, but would gladly "take" (can't think of a non- de-valuing term) a Sportster 1200L. I have come to the realization that I may not be able to afford any Harley and might have to reluctantly turn to another brand. I will avoid this as much as I can and for as long as I can though lol.
So anyway, I was hoping to get some opinions on what 2007 Sportsters would cost. I really don't want to go older than 2007 because I'm pretty sure they became fuel injected in 2007. I guess I could go down to 2006 or even 2005, even though I'm sure there's been TONS of updates since then. I know the motors started being rubber mounted in 2004 so I definitely wouldn't go older than 2005 because that's gettin pretty old and I could go buy a 2009 Yamaha V Star 650C for $6,000.
So let me have it. I'll try not to cry lol.
Bare in mind, I do not need ANY extras. I'm perfectly happy with a stock Sportster 1200L. Saddle bags and a windshield are huge plusses, but the Harley name means the most.
If you got 6K stop your whining and go buy yourself a Sportster!

We're new to the forum. Just last week we bought a 2007 XL 1200L for just $5,999 buy it now price on e-bay. The bike had just 1300 miles on it. It needed a new battery when we bought it, but other than that, it's perfect. If I can figure out how, I will post a pic, but like I said, I'm new. It's two-tone olive green and black. No extras with the bike except a cheap windshield that we already took off. The person we bought it from is in Schenectady NY and we are in Baltimore, but it was worth the ride. He gets a lot of bikes. I believe from auctions. Good luck!
