New here and this is my 883N:

Had the Short Shots on but replaced it with the Supertrapp 2:1's. Also installed the Arlen Ness Big Sucker, 8" Road 6 Customs bars (re-wiring was a pain!), a PCV, forwards, and a few other minor things.

Demon - what kind of handle bars are those? Did you have to have longer cables?

Sorry I didn't read the post very well...ha

New Iron owner here. Bought used last week with 2300 miles on her. Previous owner put on the tank and air intake cover from the nightster (I'm assuming). Is this a common mod? It worked great for me - I was torn between the black iron and the silver iron. I like the balance this one's got. I'm still thinking the black cover might look better – opinions? If anyone's interested in the grey one I'd consider a straight trade.

After it's all paid off I hope to get some pipes on it. I really like the look and price of the short shots but they seem to be done pretty often.

Yeah, those bars are from Road 6, think theyre in Kansas. They make 8, 12, 16 inch bars like that. Internally wiring them was easy compared to other bars. At the 4 different ends where the bars make a 90 degree turn, it's open so you can fiddle with the wires when routing them and they come with caps to glue on when you're done. I did have to cut and splice my hand control wires but you can use the stock clutch/throttle/and brake cables. You can also bend the metal part of the brake line to make it work temporarily w/o damaging your brake line but I eventually replaced the brake line for a cleaner look.

Yeah, everyone has those pipes and they're loud ass hell. Not a deep throaty loud like the big twins but kind of annoying raspy loud. I even tried to quiet it down with Big City Thunder QQ baffles. And I did lose some low-end torque with my short pipes. Eventually, I just changed out the thing to my Supertrapps.

For now you can just drill out your stock mufflers.

Yeah I'll want an exhaust with a good low rumble but I'm not willing to sacrifice power. I know I'll kick myself in the a.ss if it gets slower. As my first bike it's quicker than I'd expected but that doesn't mean I'm about to make it any slower

Demon - do you have some more pics of your bike? It looks like you relocated the turn signals as well.

I used the relocation kit from HD. You can either put it on the top or bottom triple tree. With the kit, it stick out about 3 inches from the forks. Don't really like them but it works for now. Might just cut out some brackets and bring the signals closer this winter when I have time.
Here's a view from the other side:

I relocated the coil to between the cylinders using a engine mount bracket where the horn used to be on the older XL's. http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/s...=479336&page=4
I like the look, really cleans up that area above the front cylinder. Also, bought a Licks Solo bag. Just enough room to stuff a long sleeve shirt and a hat in there, along with some other small things.
