Default Sprung Seats

Hi again,

Just trying to get some info from the guys who have spring seats on their Irons (HD or otherwise).
I am looking to get one of these, mainly for the look, but also to assist with the ride on our roads (I swear I saw Neil Armstrong planting a flag on the freeway yesterday!).
Do they absorb much shock or improve the ride quality?
Are they worth the dosh?
Who makes the best seat/fitting hardware? Which brand is the best value?
Are they as easy to fit and change as they say they are?

Thanks.

PS: Have finally run the engine in and gave it the berries for the first time today. These bikes are awesome. Girls bike my arse!!

I just installed a Rich Phillips seat and bracket on my Iron...

The bracket kit is sweet...goes on easy and nothing permanent...the seat I think I have found something better...Redtailleather.com...the seats look to be better quality but does cost more $260 vs $160...

It takes some getting use-to...the stock seat is very cushy in comparison to the hard leather springer seat...

If you are looking for something comfortable I would look into getting a nicer seat vs the springer seat...I think you may be happier in the long run...I got the springer seat more for classic look then functionality...

Good Luck

Lewis

I couldn't imagine why you'd want to. After leaving your kidneys on the first speed bump, you'll wish it were higher! It's almost on the "too low" side as it comes from the factory. And the muffler mount drags before the peg feeler... I wish it were regular height, not low or hugger...

Yes you have to remove the entire exhaust ... or get a smokin' drill to drill through that thick metal bracket. even so probably quicker to remove everything ... thats what I did anyway.

Default Spring seat

I put one in last week and I love it! Not as cushy as the stock, but way cool looking and still comfortable. The install was easy...i got the one from Licks and it's a corbin gentry. Paid $280 for seat, springs and mount kit. If you're going for the bobber look get the springer!!

HI Jason,

I had a look at the slicks site and they say:

"Please NOTE: fuel injected Sportsters 2007-current must require a relocation of the fuel injection module for proper fitment...some final mods may be needed to make our seats work with these models"

And:

"Note: This is a custom kit and minor modifications to the rear bracket may be necessary depending on the application."

How did you go with this?

Thanks.

No, you do not need to remove the V&H Short Shots to bolt the passenger foot peg mounts. What you need to do is line te mounts up with the bolts slid through the holes and one of the small screw driver attachements. I believe its a T-35? Don't quote me, just find the one that fits. Then use find a wrench that fits that attachment. I want to say it's a 1/4 in. wrench. But at the same time it sounds too big. If you'd like some pictures, let me know and I can help you out.

Hey Brown,
Is that how you did yours ? There is a hole in the bracket but the one on mine was too far off set to get to the pass. peg mount hole. I tried to elongate it but the bracket was too hard to modify. So i just removed the exhaust then reinstalled it (about 30 minutes). No big deal 2nd time around.
