About 10 days ago I had 12" Burly apes put on my bike. I love them.

16s are way too high for me! Perhaps considering between 10 and 12 inch. Thinking about too hell with it and get the 12 inch.

Should I just get a longer cable kit just in case that I might want to go higher? Are there any dangers in using cables that are longer than what I need?

THey look good. I'm also torn between 3 different brands for apes: Nash Midget Gimps, Burly Narrow, Lick's Super Narrow and Drag Narrow Glide...which makes 4! Any recommendation, pros and cons? I'm looking for the narrowest possible.

I've attached a pic of my 08 XL 1200C, it has 14" narrow apes that i think are perfect size. But, i can definitely suggest 4 things:

1) V-twin manufacturing makes 12/14/16 narrow apes that are 1 1/4" that are pre-drilled and knurled... and they're about $95 from zanotti's.

2) Burly makes a cable kit that has all the extension wires and cables you'll need pre-done to fit. $185 (roughly) from zanotti's.

3) get a service manual... i got a .pdf online for about $6. (ping me offline, and i'll shoot you an email to the URL)

4) If you're close to a dealer, they charged me $12 to pull the connectors off the clips (AFTER you've taken pics of the original with your cell phone)... well worth the money.

Hey Glen,

Thanks for the info. So you got the V-Twin apes?

i did, because they're thicker versus the 1" bars that burly had. The ONLY questionable thing is that they bend about a half-inch outside of the fork tubes (if that makes any sense). But, it's not all that noticeable to be honest. I don't know if they come in black, either. I just wanted 1.25" chrome, and that's what i got. Ping me if you want me to take front-view pics tonight of them.
