You may be fillin up more, you never said how many gallons it is requiring. However from what I have read here in different threads sounds normal for the low fuel light to come on around there. \\; \\;

Have 520 miles on mine. First tank did about 42, second tank was 53ish, and the last couple tanks have all been around 48. Light comes on around 90-95 miles and I usually dont put more than 2 gallons in, so that 1/2 gallon rule may or may not be correct, unless I have a 2.5 gallon tank, or the light comes on real early, lol. \\;
According to the owners manual the light for the Nightster comes on with 0.8 gal left. \\; Yes there is some \\;debate as to how accurate the light is. I know mine is off it comes on with1.8 gallons leftvs the 1.0 the owners manual says. I have a 883 with the 4.5 gallon tank.

I just went over 1000 miles and I get about what everybody else had said - around 50mpg give or take. \\; I agree the indicator comes on much sooner than the manual says. \\; My rule has always been to fill up at 100 miles.
This my opinion.The reason the low fuel light comes on early is because the fuel pump is in the tank.Cooled and lubricated by the fuel.If it is run low too many times the pump will fail just like on a fuel injected car.Cold fuel hits a hot pump bang it is dead right now and you go nowhere.Seen it hundreds of times.
Hello everyone, this is my first post and I just bought my first bike ever about 3 weeks ago. \\;\\\\\\; I have an 08 Nightster (orange and black) with \\;\\\\\\;some Rine Hart Slip-ons and the S/E stage 1 A/C and get about 90 miles to the tank. \\;\\\\\\; Is this about what all you other Nightster owners are getting? \\;\\\\\\; Seems like I am filling up all the time. \\;\\\\\\; I might just be rideing more than I think! \\;\\\\\\; Thanx
 \\;
Keep in mind that you need to calculate your mileage based on how much you fill into the tank. \\; I get my light at around 90-100 miles, but then can only squeeze in about 2.2 gallons, so that puts me right at a 45ish mpg. \\;

well my light was coming on after 75-80 miles. \\; A friend of mine asked me if I was getting the gas from the same place every time and I was, just cause it is close to my house. \\; So with my last tank I got it from Wal-Mart and my light came on at 93 miles. \\; So surprised that all it was, was bad gas. \\; Easy fix, and I won 't ever buy gas there again.......unless they sell gas there for $2 a gallon. \\; Thanx for all of the insight from all of you guys!!
By the way, on my last fill up, it took 2.5 gallons. \\; Now I know for a fact I can easily go 100 miles before even thinking about needing to fill up. \\;

I have a stock '08 Nightster (8000 miles), and the low fuel light comes on at 90 miles, like it's always done. Seems to be the average.
I once calculated highway mileage, and it was a disappointing ~45. Not sure why some are reporting significantly better mileage, but suggestions would be welcome.
I check my mileage every time I fill up. Here is the last 6. 45.82, 52.32, 42.00, 46.22, 38.44, 40.98. I agree with everyone here. Fuel light about 85-95 and about 2.2 gallons to fill. I always try and use 93 octane and ride with the trip meter for a fuel gauge. Bike is in sig and I haul a$$.
