Pre 2003 Carbed Bikes are bullet proof and will outlast the new stuff by far. I had an 09 RoadGlide for 6 weeks... now back to an 02 carbed Heritage. Had an 05 WideGlide carbed before that. My first HD was a 2000 Deuce, parts aren't interchangable with any other model. The EFI bikes don't sound like a Harley to me, they have to program the missfire to get the lope.. lol
Plus you can get a manual and do all the jetwork yourself when you change pipes, carbs, cams, heads and so on without having to take it to the dealer and get Raped money wise.
Get a 2000-2002 Fatboy/Heritage with low miles... you'll thank yourself down the road.
But.. I do have a sofspot for the 2000 Deuce but I dwarfed it pretty bad being 6'4' and 275 lol

If you're just going to buy it and ride it either bike will be fine. If you're going to upgrade the performance of the engine go with the 2000. The 2000 has a far better low end with forged flywheels and Timken tapered bearings on the Sprocket shaft. The later straight bearing low end is more than adequate, but the old 2000 will outlast it. The '05 models also had valve seal problems. Sorry but I don't see the E.F.I. as an improvement. Besides having a lot of parts to fail, they cost a lot to get set up properly, $400.00 for a tuner, $200.00 for a dyno tune, and if you decide to change to different pipes, go to a big bore or cam change it's back to the dyno. With the carb you can easily change jets and the needle for less than $10.00 and easily do it yourself. Carb problems are rare, and easily fixed. Read this forum you'll see that F.I. problems occur a little more often and it can be frustrating trying to find a competent tech to get it back on track. How do I know? I own both a carbed and an F.I. Harley.
I agree. After owning a carb '00 FXST and an injected '09 Road King I say get the carb .The carbed bike will run sweet and it's so simple and cheap to tune it yourself. The carbed bike will also sound much better at idle!

I own both carbed and efi. carb is a lot easier to adjust. The efi runs better but is very frustrating and a lot of money if you want to tune.
