I'm glad I got the PMP and 5 year warranty.
24 bucks at service interval (off sets cost of syn oil verses dino)period.
Of course I do the in between ( hell I live in Texas and only a fool would do 5K on oil here even synthetic)

Just my two 2 cents... I work as a Tech at a Toyota dealer. (Yeah, Yeah, Jap car... 90% of em made in USA instead of Mexico) I almost NEVER hear "Yeah, just go ahead and fix what needs fixing..." It's always "Does it REALLY NEED that?" Most customers have a big concern over the labor cost, but to that I say, "I spent two years in trade school before even touching a wrench to a customer car. I have been in training classes for the last fifteen years keeping current on the latest systems and if you don't believe I am worth the price, you are welcome to go to PepBoys or some other shop. In the end, the really difficult problems come back to me."

If you don't think Techs need lots of continous training, just think of this: 30 years ago cars had no computers. Now there are more computers than it took to put a man on the moon. Did a Shovelhead have an immobiliser system? Electronic ignition? Fuel injection? Spark control? Electronic timing control?

Best advice I can give ANYONE going to ANY repair shop is to become an informed customer. ASK QUESTIONS! Find out what work will be done and at what cost and the reason the work is needed! If you are comfortable maintaining and repairing your ride yourself, go for it! I have nothing but respect for those who learn how to take care of the massive investment they make in a car, truck, motorcycle, boat, airplane, whatever! Just be sure to be informed first!!

Support my local Dealer! Uh yes, every time I go in and buy some type of frekin bolt on, t-shirt, or other accessory. Perhaps if HD would learn to lower their rates to a reasonable rate, more folks would come in. But they won't! Last service I did at HD ran me 300 bucks! Good bye, so long! Found an INDY that's full of ex employees from HD. 1/2the cost, get's me in and out on my lunch hour, and is open until 8pm. Last time I rolled in I barely got off the bike and they had 3 guys jumping on it taking care of it. It's fully logged and certified. I'll continue to do that until the warranty is up, and then I'll take care of the work myself.

I can't tell where you are from, but I can tell you that in California they better have given you an estimate and if they found more issues then another OK for the additional repairs is required. None of this we did this or that crap. They have here a bureau of automotive repair that regulates repair facilities of motorcycles through motor homes. If a legitimate business is in violation of that then the bureau wants to know about it and would be all over them like a cheap suit.
You can also ask to have all parts returned to you that do not have core charges too, but you need to do that when the repair order is written.
I think from what you stated, I would do like most suggested and buy a manual and do it yourself or find another dealer or an independant repair shop.

The best advice I can give about this sort of thing is spend the bucks on a factory manual for your bike. It will pay for itself 50 fold in a short time. I keep mine in the crapper and read up all the time.

Update!

They gave be a free back tire with balance and install because of the spike in the fotn tire being uder warranty. They said the fork bearing were no covered by my extended warranty, but I called the extended warranty service and they said it was! Check to me is on the way. I was told that HD never even contacted them! I have had it!
