Do they have those on bikes? I know when they fail on a car they shut down both the ignition and fuel injection. Had it happen on my Tahoe. Driving down the road and it shut down as if I turned the key off. After sitting for awhile it started again but couple miles down the road it shut down again.
Troubleshooted it by cranking the engine and finding it was not getting any spark.
Yo' Bone I'm gonna watch this one closely as I too dunno chit about that sensor and seriously want to learn...So bump it up and lets get some crank sensor experts up in this thread!!

how many people have had this sensor fail and what was the symptoms did your bike just not start up
I didn't lose one but a friend did on his '01 Classic. It's a carbed bike. He was coming home from Wyoming when it started running ragged. He carries an extra ignition module, the stock one, as the bike is not stock. He changed modules, it started but ran pretty badly. It got him home and he traced it to the crank position sensor. I'm not sure but I would guess they get weaker with age. Still got the original on my '02 with 46,000. His '01 had less milage.
