Once Harley moved to using the D407, Harley no longer had exclusive rights to the D205 and you started seeing it being offered by 3rd party vendors, don't know if the D205 still has the Harley mark. Now the D407 is exclusively used by Harley and I doubt you will find it being sold by anybody but Harley.

I got 12K miles on the original D205 and it looks like I will get 12K on the D407. I feel no difference between these tires and they seem so far to be wearing at the same rate.
Great Info!

Looks like i can get a set for about $260 delivered, from Latus Harley Davidson online. I also found out the part numbers MH90-21(43390-08) Front and 200/55R17(43242-06A) Rear. I could get it cheaper at Chicago HD but there is Shipping involved thats actually costs more in the long run.

read the descriptions and you will see they are the same design and compound. dunlop came out in 2008 with the multi tread tire in 200 and then harley adopted it in 2009. yes one is a 50 and the other 55 series.
I have d407 harley tire on mine but it is the old style single compound

Rail, did you find an Elite 3 for the narrow Rocker front wheel? I just mounted the Elite 3 250 on rear but still have 407 on front. Oh yeah, Eastern Performance had the 250 for $160 shipped!

Thumbs up

Tk353, the tread pattern is diff. for sure. Mabee the compounds are the same, but tread, and 50 series compaired to 55 is big diff. I went to a 50 series on my Train and the change in gearing was real noticeable. Alot more responsive around town and 6th gear is much more useable. I used a Shinko brand, which used to be Yokohama, 200/50/17. Alot of the rice rocket guys here use them, real sticky and stick good in rain too. Got them from BikeBandit.com. On my 2nd one now, got 6400 miles out of 1st one. The front one is a MH90/21 Shinko and has 7800 miles on and looks to be able to go mabee 2000 more.

Mine is an 06. It came with 402's (HD branded black walls). I wasn't really type specific but when my rear needed replacement the 407 was what they had in stock. A short time later I had to do the front so to be consistent I swapped that one for a 407 as well. The 407s appeared to be softer and a little faster wearing but I'm not convinced it wasn't psychological. I can't say I noticed any traction differences between them. Neither version ever slid on me and I lean a lot and ride hard.

I just replaced them again. This time 402's were in stock so I went back to those. We'll see how long this set lasts.

I went and looked at records and its ironic I thought the 407s were wearing faster. I went through the first set of 402's in 6500 miles. I rode the 407's for 10,400 before replacing. So the 407s actually lasted longer.

Damn!
Would you happen to know the correct part number for the D407 200/55R17?

I believe the Dunlop MM90-19 M/C 61H Elite 3 will fit the Rocker C Front wheel. I have the Dunlop 240/40R-18 M/C 79V Elite 3 on the rear and so far it is great. Will know much better in about three weeks when I return from a trip from Rochester, MN to the Smoky Mountains.
