I debated whether to start a new thread or tag onto this one, and chose the latter in order to keep all the info on this item together.

I just installed the fairing on my '06 Heritage Softail Classic. I also ordered the stainless trim piece, the wind deflectors, the multi-pouch and the 7-inch windshield.

There were no problems changing out the fork mounting studs -- took just a few minutes doing one at a time. Also no problems attaching the hardware to the fairing. Attaching the windshield, tri-pouch and trim piece was also easy, though a third hand would have proved useful.

Took it out for a test ride this morning. I wore my usual 3/4 helmet with face shield. I'm 5'10", and sit on a Corbin solo that's been reworked by Mean City Cycles, who added memory foam. I think I sit a touch higher than the stock seat.

Got up to 75 mph on a windy freeway. From the shoulders to the waist, absolutely no wind, and the bike was very stable. Also no wind on the arms and hands. From the neck up I felt wind in my face, but it was a smooth flow and there was no helmet buffeting whatsoever.

I plan to leave the 7-inch shield on as summer is approaching and I like to feel the breeze. In the fall I might order a 9-inch shield, though.

The finish on this thing is superb. As my bike is partly black it blends right in, and I may get a local artist to add some accents in Fire Red Pearl to really tie things together.

As far as looks, well, that's very individual. I was never trying to make the bike look like a Street Glide -- I just wanted to change the look without having to trade the bike in and lose my butt in the process. In any case, after almost 30,000 miles and extensive mods, I'm not interested in selling the bike. I don't care about a radio, as I use my iPod when I want tunes. My GPS still fits nicely on the handlebar.

Here are a few pics. Hope this helps someone who's on the fence.

Looks good OldBoldPilot

Seems like the Softail Riders are getting better results with this Fairing than the RK Riders. If I understand correctly from Parakiller the RK brackets dont have the adjustment to allow the fairing to adjust its angle and the fairing is tilted back causing wind to go more to the rider instead of over. I also think it may be the riders height on the RK vs the FLS, they sit highter.

Im very happy with mine, I dont always ride with a shield but when I do I wolud rather have this fairing than the HD Low Profile Windshield that I used to use, I think it looks and works much better.

I agree on all points. It seems to fit the Softails nicely -- which comes as a bit of a surprise to me! Thanks for shepherding this thread, and for adding so much information on this mod.

I got my stuff in from Phat a few days ago and got it all put on yesterday. Went with all teh stuff for the batwing - tri-pouch, stainless trim, lowers, and went with 9" windshield. Install was a total breeze. The memphis brackets allow for tilt adjustment so I stood it up straight and the windshield sits just where I want it, which is about nose level. I can see over but it is high enough to put the wind over my head.

Don't have pics yet but is on my '03 Heritage. I have the silver/black bike so it looks awesome.

OldBoldPilot's pics pretty much look just like my set up.

Say, OldBoldPilot, how are you mounting your GPS? I had mine inside but had to remove it due to the tri-pouches. From the pic, i can't quite see where/how you connected yours.
