ZUMO Powerlet Techmount quick disconnect
I took on this project using the excellent information from the folks on HDForums.com.
As requested...here are the pics of the Powerlet Powerbar and the Techmount 2 1/2" stem mount installed.
I did not want to permanently hard wire the Zumo Bike mount for various reasons battery drain, theft, weather, washing the bike, cleaner look etc. I wanted no wires hanging and a quick and easy disconnect (less than 5 seconds) of the Zumo AND the cradle.
While gathering partsI learned of the new Techmount 2 1/2" stem mount for the Powerlet Powerbar.
BTW-Both the folks at Techmount and Powerlet have excellent products and were outstanding to work with.
Here's how it turned out.
Powerbar w/Techmount stem:
With Zumo cradle:
With Zumo 550 mounted:
MP3's, audio books and the voice navigation play through the HD radio speakers using the aux jack.
I like the final results. Thanks again to all you folks for sharing your knowledge. Good Stuff!

That looks excellent, very clean install!!! I also can not stand to see all the wires. This makes it easy on easy off. Was that a universal mount? I am considering a different unit for just XM capabilty. Can you list the parts that you used and an idea of what the cost was when you were all done.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Did you hardwire the Powerlet socket? I don't see any wires. I like what you did and it looks great. I have a similar plan in the works for my Road King.
I chose to hardwire my Powerlet socket using the more durable Powerlet wiring harness rather than the power cable that comes with the Zumo. I plan to run the cable under my tank. At least on my Road King I can bring the cable up inside the nacelle, then exit immediately below the handlebar for a very clean install. I plan to leave the socket powered via the ACC switch. I can use it for the Zumo, iPod, or heated gloves, etc.
I also like the idea of being able to remove the Zumo cradle so that it doesn't stay permanently attached. I plan to leave a chrome Ram Mount U bolt RAM-B_231-CHU attached to the handlebar. It looks nice and its an easy on easy off removal of the Zumo and all of its cradle.
Powerlet makes a nice Zumo power cord that attaches to the Powerlet socket PPC-20.
I just got my Zumo this week. I plan to have the dealer do the wiring to the socket when they Dyno my bike in a couple weeks. I'm looking forward to the finished installation.
