I rode my '09 SERG 400 miles yesterday, on a combination of primary and secondary roads; the shocks seemed to bottom out several times and the ride was far less than comfortable. Even my FXD has a smoother ride.

Mine was pretty rough when it was new, 3000 miles now and has got better but still wasn't great. Replaced front fork oil and ride improved greatly. Used the SE fork oil (not the racing). The original oil that was in the forks looked terrible when drained.

I've been reading in the forum about the ohlins. i have an 08 street glide that i may be trading in for a 2010 se-sg. man, that is one slick lookin bike. and the torque of the 110 inch motor has to be great. Yes, shocks from a similar year ultra classic will fit, it'll raise the back end about an inch, but for the current trend of lowered rear suspensions, it's a shame that they've not come up with something that won't harm the ride. i know that the streetglides, even the regular ones, and now the 2010 roadglides use the lowered suspension, which reduces the rear suspension travel by an inch. stock ultra shocks would be a better solution unless you want to get the ohlins. they're pricey, but howard from motorcycle metal in the forum sells them to forum members for $500. much cheaper than retail, and he'll get your weight, and match the springs etc, to fit you, and your passenger. hope this helps.

Default FLTRSE3 hard ride

I've had Road Kings, Ultras, Softails, Sporty's. Yes the stock CVO RG is a hard ride. On a two hundred mile trip, I thought my wife was going to walk home. I've since, adjusted the shock air to 40 psi plus for normal riding and almost 50 psi with luggage. I replaced the stock seat with a Mustang rider and seperate passenger seat. Last weekend we did another two hundred plus mile trip and we're both happy. BIG difference. I bought the CVO so I would not need to add or change parts. Oh well, I should know better by now.

I really do not know what's happening with you guys. I rode my o4 ultra 96K, traded for my 09 SERG & have rode it 18K, and with the exception of some motor stuff left it stock, and it rode better the first day up to this very day better than the 04. With all the very happy (long distance) owers of 09 RGs you guys need to get back to the dealer cause something is very not right with your bikes.

I have two Softail and this is my first touring model. I felt as though it was far superior to my other bikes. I did get rid of the air shocks while I was in Sturgis this year.

What did you replace them with?

I went with Progressive Suspension 440 life time warranty. They had a deal in Rapid City got a little discount and free install. I had a friend that rode with us to Sturgis. During the trip he blew one of the air shocks on his 2008 Ultra. He was running two up and fully loaded. He had his replaced at the same time. If you want to stiffen the ride you just tighten the top of the shock by hand and it compresses the spring. I like them real well. No dinking around with air lines and a pump.

Not a CVO, but an Electrglide standard 09 with low profile "stock rear shocks". It rides rough & bottoms out easily. From reading, it sounds like I should try Progressive Suspension 440, aftermarket seat (not Corbin because too hard?) & would over inflated tires matter that much? I'm in Kansas with only straight roads, that why the over inflated tires & tire wear issues. Thanks, --Negrini
