Default Packing Tips and Tricks

Hey All-

I am looking for some tips and tricks for packing for a trip. I have a bike with limited space, a Fat Bob. I'm planning a trip to Sturgis next year along with a bunch of shorter trips. It would be easy to pack for myself but..........I'm bringing the wife, I know I know. I'm looking at straping a pack to the sissy bar and some saddle bags. Any other tips......other than leaving the wife at home. Getting a bagger is not an option....love my Fat Bob.

My suggestion would be to get a luggage bag that fit the rear bar. The rest I'd ship ups to where your staying. Then ship it back. This way you'll have everything you'll need. Roll most of the cloths your bringing with and pack tight. Remember if momma ain't happy nobody is happy. Hell some women between boots and heels can fill up one bag a lone.

Yeah, a T-Bag, or similar is expensive, but the best way to make efficient use of the sissy bar for luggage.

Still, it is small for a couple.

Wear disposable clothes. Buy new stuff as you need it on the road.

Sissy Bar bag, saddle bags, handle bar roll bag and a tool bag.
Let your old pack her stuff. Besides jeans, boots and jacket. The only thing you will need is rain gear. Just buy underware, socks, tees along the way and toss out as needed.

pack light, if your staying at a motel most have a laundry service so no mater how many days your going you really only need about 3 outfits leave room for clothes as you know you will buy a shirt here or there etc. Pack only what you need most hotels have a hair dyrer in the room for the ladies check ahead where your staying if you know and youll find all this out.

I don't need much but you ad a wife to the back and then you add alot of luggage. Worst part about minimal room is depending on time of year you may have two sets of leathers rain gear etc and that stuff takes up room when your not wearing it. But on my superglide i could get a set of leathers in each saddle bag packed tight and then if you got a big Tbag luggage back on your sissybar luggage rack you can pack that baby with enough stuff youll be fine.

Above advice about t-bags and using hotel laundry is dead on.. Wear a set and take 2 sets of clothes.. Last trip was 2 weeks and had to take warm stuff, cool stuff, wet prevention stuff.. had to wear the leathers all the time for the last 2 days of the trip because of cool mornings and foggy/misty days and had bought too much stuff along the way... use UPS/USPS as needed..

One Tip is to wear two t-shirts. I put a long shelve over a short on the ride up.
Then buy a few t-shirts there and ship stuff home. Before you leave stop at a post office and get one of those flat rate boxes and ship some stuff home.

Not advice for packing, but advice for your trip....Toward the end of the trip, dive in a dumpster, score you a box and mail your dirty clothes, and crap you bought home. My OL go on week long trips at least twice a year. I always mail a package home.

This is what I had for the last one week trip we took.

2 pair of jeans
2 $4. black tee shirts from Walley World
6 pair of old worn socks
6 worn out underwear

This fit in one saddle bag

Leather jacket and chaps. Bought a cargo net from H.D. to strap to the Tbag when we took the leather off. This is a must when touring. GET THE CARGO NET.

The other saddle bag had tools and rain gear.

my wife packed her closet in the Tbag and top roll baq.

Here is how it works...Each night I would throw out the old socks and underwear that I wore that day to make room for a nice $24. tee shirt from a dealership we visited or other souvenir trap. After wearing the cheap tee twice, it would be trashed and replaced by a new one. I would rotate the jeans each day. When we arrived home, I wouldn't have any socks or underwear left in the bag but would some nice tee shirts.

The wife had a different outfit every day and she was happy.

You don't have to get in the dumpster. The PO will furnish the flat rate boxes.
