Default Blue Ridge Pkwy this wkd

I'm heading back to NC mountains from eastern NC this weekend leaving Friday AM baring a hurricane or something. Route looks like 264W to Raleigh then 64W to 276W. Last trip few weeks ago did the dragon, 28, cherohola, etc. This trip plan to stay in Maggie then hit pkwy at 19 near Cherokee and ride up into Virginia atleast as far as Meadows of Dan, VA possibly staying 2nd nite at Blue Ridge Motel. Any advice on where to stop or what not to miss etc. Trip back looks like 58E to 158E to 58E again to 64E the 17S.

Please post when you get back about the roads you took, places you stayed, etc. I want to put together a trip next year and hopefully some of the club members will want to go. I figure 4-5 days total time. I want to ride the Skyline Drive from Front Royal VA south to BRP, and then down into the Smokies. Would like to spend one night in Maggie Valley. If any club members go I would like to say we will stay this night at XX and these are your options on what you can do or see this day. If you get as far north as Skyland Restaurant on the Skyline Drive try the black berry cobbler with ice cream. The view is great on a clear day overlooking the valley.

Just got back home from BRP and Skyline Drive which took me 3 days from the beginning to end. FYI, There's 1 construction work going on and 2 detours which will knock you off the BRP, but the Skyline's gorgeous with no interferences. About 25 degrees cooler up in the mountains from the low lying land with so much heat and humidity. Had a grand time as I'll be going back in 2 years again.

Looking at heading down the Skyline and connecting onto the BRP this this weekend as well. Hoping the weather holds out for us. Did most of the smokies and dragon last year. Riding down from Kingston Ontario Canada. Should make for a good ride. Finishing off by swinging east towards virginia beach and then back north. First ride for the wife on her new iron.

If you're stopping at Meadows of Dan there's a nice motorcycle only campground right there. It's just down 58W a mile beyond The Blue Ridge Motel. Will likes to appeal to the quieter motorcycle campers as opposed to the rowdy crowd. If your not camping this trip at least ride down and check it out. Will has one little cabin he rents as well.

Start watchin' out around 4 PM each afternoon.

Rode Skyline Drive down through the Blue Ridge mtns connecting with BRP a few years ago. Was going pretty slow anyway, not just curves but a lot of up and down stuff...

Came around a corner and there were about nine does standing right out in the middle of the road.

Locked it up then released it and stopped about 10' from them. They never moved! I just walked the bike slowly through the herd, then kept on going. Crazed.

The ladies come out late in the afternoon/early in the evening, and they don't always stand alongside the road...keep an eye out for them.

If you're going to be at Meadows of the Dan...... you really SHOULD stay on the Parkway, all the way to Peaks of Otter, then turn south onto VA-43, and stop in Bedford VA, and visit the D-Day memorial.
Regardless of your politics..... it's one hell of a place to visit. http://www.dday.org/
From there stay on VA-43 (nice curvy road) to US-29, then take 29 south to US-58.

If you can't spare the time, take 58 East from MoD and turn north on VA-8, then EAST onto VA-40.... you'll be twisting and turning so much, you might even see your own license plate. (you'll pick up US-220 just outside or Rocky Mount VA)

This past week we stayed at a log cabin in Maggie Valley so we picked our own berries outside our door and made our own cobbler. The ice cream we bought at a store. I don't know if it was as good, but it was pretty good and eating it on the deck with a great view was even better.
