Default Upstate NY / Adirondacks

Hi!
We are planning a trip at the end of July from Michigan to upstate New York, destination Adirondacks (through Canada).
Anyone have any recommendations/words of wisdom? We have never been to that area...and are using the HD site as a guide to the scenic routes...there are so many listed in the adirondacks though...and we are also wondering if the seaway is a good option either on the way into the Adirondacks or on the way back.
Thanks!

Seaway is nice. Stopped at Eisenhower Locke in Massena once, and watched a couple of big ships go through. It was pretty cool. From there, take 37 all the way to Malone, to Plattsburgh, down the Northway (87) south & go back via Rt 3, through Lake Placid, all the way back to Watertown. (Think it might be Rt 9 ? before you get to Lake Placid, but just follow signs to Keene Vally,Lake Placid, off of 87 south.) Some cool little resort-type towns near 1000 Islands that would be nice to stay near & just walk around at night --- like Alexandria Bay.

There is a HD dealer in Lake Placid. The ride from Placid over into Vermont is great. Want to get there again and spend a couple days stairing out over Lake Champlain.

If you cross at alexandria bay (1000 islands) you may want to spend the night in the area, very nice. Stay North of Ft. Drum and hop on rt3 over the north route to Tupper lake, Lake placid, Dont forget to take the bike up Whiteface mountain auto road (north pole)...then go over to lake Champlain Port enry area, and return 28N and 28 Long lake, Blue mountain lake thru Rome, over to Osego on Lake Ontario and you can take 104 along the lake thru Rochester then get on Lake Ontario state parkway along the lake west of Rochester over to Niagara falls, from there your pretty go arounf Lake Erie..your choice, Hope you have a good time. I've traveled that route 10-15 yrs ago and never had a problem with food ,campgrounds, or motels....plenty of mom and pop eats, etc

Upstate NY is sort of a hidden gem of motorcycling IMO.
A lot of people I talk to from other areas of the country who are not familiar with NY state tend to think it's all like NY City.
If you stay away from the cities, there are miles and miles of rural riding scattered with with small towns where the population is low and so is traffic.

Being from the Binghamton area originally, I am particularly fond of all the areas north of there.
Ithaca to the west and Oneonta to the east.
And of course the Great Lakes to the north.
Scenic back roads are everywhere and even some of the interstates can be pretty good at the right time of year. Rt 88 is a good example.
Taking Rt. 12 north east of Binghamton to Utica was one of my favorite day rides and a good route to get to the Adirondacks.
Once you get near the Adirondacks nearly every road qualifies as a "scenic route".
