Default Phat Performance Parts...

Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone has any first hand experience ordering online from Phat Performance Parts (phatperformanceparts.com)? I'm looking at their online price of Baker DD6 (DD411S) builder's gear set for my 99 RK, Twin Cam 88. The price is well below anything I've found, even J&P Cycles which I do have a gold membership with.

That brings me to another qestion if anyone has any ideas... Most of the websites which list this gear set say the MSRP around $2595, J&P Cycles has it listed as 'Everyday low price $2763.99' and Gold Member price of $2487.59. Is there any difference from dealer to dealer on the MSRP of particular items? I know, DUMB qestion, but had to ask.

Seriously though, would like any feedback on Phat Performance Parts from those who may have bought from them. Or if anyone has contact with where to purchase at a price similar to thiers for the DD411S gear set. They (Phat Performance Parts) list this set at close to $300 less than J&P Cycles and free shipping. Thanks, CroK

Just a quick update...
I called Baker today to make sure I was ordering the correct gear set, before I ordered from Phat Performance Parts and they gave me a price I could not refuse. So all is well and the unit should be here in 3 days! That alone is enough for me to feel good about doing buisiness directly with Baker. Hopefully, I'll be ridin down the highway this weekend without my engine screaming for another gear!

Gear set was attempted to be delivered this morning, but I had a doctor's appointment to keep. Missed the driver dang it! Called FedEx and they got hold of the driver then setup meeting place. Would have had to wait until Monday had they not been so gracious. THANK YOU FEDEX! Gonna be doin the deed as soon as I get done posting all my BS here and other threads.

Looks like you already got an answer to your original question, so I'm glad it worked out for you. Phat Perf. is near my house, and they are a great group of guys... Small operations, but they do a good job of shipping quickly and always have great prices... Now go have fun wrenching!

Over the weekend, I tore down my tranny and put the dd6 from baker in. While trying to set the shifter pawl adjusting screw, I noticed it would not start in the threaded hole on the case. The threads werre mucked up in the turning of the eccentric which moves the shift pawl back and forth for adjustment. Had to grind the last thread off so it would fit. Got the new gear set into the case and it locked up solid with just a slight bit of movement. Pulled the gear set back out and saw where one of the gears on counter shaft was hitting on the tranny case. Pulled out the dremel and ground that part off of the case.

Also, on first install, I found that one of the larger lower four bolts holding the trap door in had a malformed socket head, had to use a metric allen wrench on that bolt in order to tighten it. I had to call baker to order speedo recalibration unit for my tranny, had them send me another shifter pawl since I slipped just a tad when grinding the last thread up and hit the small offset piece which does the actual movement of shifter pawl.

I'm waiting for those items to arrive, so I'll do all the parts cleaning until they come in. Ten years of road grime build up has me scrubbing every part and polishing the wheels while I'm at it. I'll probably not finish until this coming weekend, keeping fingers crossed that nothing else comes up.

Since there are other threads from guys doing the same build with some great pictures, I thought I'd skip putting up pics. You guys really wouldn't want to see my shop. I need those people on tv that do the cleanups for horders to come do my shop!

The gear set install went well. Had to grind out part of the inner wall of the tranny case after the initial install. Got that done, then completed the job Saturday evening. I've put around 120 or so miles on it and the bike has a totally different ride now. NO more engine screaming once I get up to or above 70. Its running right at 2800 rpm at what I am guessing seems to be around 70mph, and has more to give! I'm passing other vehicles on the highway now instead of the opposite. I don't think there is anything else I could have done to get the results this tranny upgrade has given.
