Default Inner Primary Removal 1979 Shovelhead

I trying to remove the inner primary from a 1979 Shovelhead. I think that I need a primary drive locking tool placed between the chain and the compensating sprocket, and then loosen the nut with the proper socket and breaker bar. Then using the same locking tool placed at the clutch assembly, turn the clutch hub mainshaft nut clockwise to loosen it and then remove everything and an assembly. Is this right and do you have any tips for me?

Motor nut right hand thread Trany nut left hand thread Invest in an electric impact wrench 1/2 you can get them cheap You can buy those locking bars between the comp sprocket and trany sprocket or make your own with 1/4 by 1in bar stock Usually with an electric impact the nuts will spin free Usually!!

If you have an impact gun you won't need a locking tool.Remember that the clutch hub nut, 1 1/8" is left handed. The Motor sprocket nut,1 1/2" is right handed.

If you feel that you don't want to use an impact there are a few things that you can do.Break the clutch hub nut first, this way you can use the motor sprocket nut to hold things in place. The motor sprocket is a different issue. That mother is usually very tight, specially if it has never been off before.Make it easy on yourself and do the impact!Ten or fifteen seconds VS way to much effort.
