The SE comp is a winner, but I don't know about the clutch basket. They tried to sell me some kind of clutch upgrade to go with it but I wasn't interested. Myself, if I were to change the primary ratio it would be with the Evolution Industries 49 tooth clutch basket sprocket with ring gear. Easy install and you get a new chain. This gives you about 250 rpm increase which will give a better launch and a more useable 6th gear. Keep in mind whenever you modify the primary ratios you will likely, or could lose 6th gear indicator or cruise control.

I got my SE Compensator installed today- Great improvement.
No clunk on start-up, smoother operation and for me NO increase
in vibration any where. Between the new compensator and the
IDS my '07 is where it should have been from the Moco. Nice!
I installed the SE comp in the spring. I removed it later when I was hunting down a noise that I thought was coming from the primary. When I rode the bike with the stock comp. back in, I was amazed at how much better the throttle response was without that Heavy SE comp. in there. I never reinstalled it and have no starter banging. It may be because I have compression releases. This is on a 4.065 x 4 5/8 120

I take it that the noise was not the comp in the end?

Ron- Got my comp - boy there is no comparison. This is what it
should have been from the factory.
My best measurements are - Large spring pac 2.505"
Med spring pac 2.501
Small spring pac 2.501
Hope this helps.
Boxs
Pulled mine off today and measured the dia's. Same as yours ,so they never tightened up the fit since last year.
All is well with only normal wear in marks on the sprocket and cam. The only thing that blows is oiling could be better on the cam to sprocket shoulder on the extension shaft. Mine was covered with red dust and the machined id of the sprocket and od of the extension shaft . No gauling or wear but evidence of running hot with high friction on the surfaces. Even that plastic thrust washer was like new, which did concern me at first. Spring preload is only a few thou less than new , most likely since the spring edges have mated to each other. She goes back on as is once the new engine is completed. Tensioner is still like new, but each time the primary was removed I checked starter shaft play. It is getting scarey play now and will need to rebearing the shaft or something. I suspect that clicking sound that developped recently on start up could be due to this . Don't want to have problems later since it's a softail and a total pain in the ass to get off. Anybody that's been there can relate. Milage is 22000 kmtrs on bike and about 10 on the comp.

I guess I'm not surprized that the specs weren't tightened up. I noticed the
same discoloration on my original- maybe they need a small oiling hole?? Good
luck with the rest of your issues.
