Default Re-jetting my carb. Suggestions?

Okay, so I'm a little embarassed to admit that I've never re-jetted my carb before. I askedmy mechanicwhat size he put in but he couldn't remember because it was over a year ago. I've since changed to the Thunderheader and I know I probably ought to re-jet. I don't know if anyone can tell me what size jets to look for based on my build or not but here it is. 95", SE203 cams, stock heads and ignition. Yost tube on the carb and a foamair filter element. Thunderheader exhaust. Can anyone give me a direction here?

I'd start with a 50 slow jet and a 205 main. I'm assuming you have the stock CV40 carb...

Ummm... I think that will be WAY too rich. Head Quarters has a kit for the stock CV on a 95" high-comp kit with headwork and it includes a 46 slow and 195 and 200 main jets. With no headwork, and I am assuming stock 9:1 compression, I'd go with a 45 slow and 185 main to start and tune from there (I have this combo in my stock CV on my 88" stock comp engine with HQ-0039G cams and the heads done by HQ, and I'm too rich right now).

Check out this page and maybe consider buying one of HQ's kits. They also come with needles.

Cheers!

Clammy is right, you will foul your plugs, I know this from personal experience.... 95", S&S510g, stock heads & AN BS air cleaner. I made it 11 miles with 48 slow jet, 200 main before it started missing out, pulled the plugs and they were coal black, fuel fouled. went to a 46 slow & 190 main, 2 3/4 turns out on the mix screw and I'm gettin' real close, still playing with needles and needle positions.

Clammy, how are those heated gloves??

In the 2 weeks I got to use them, before we got buried in snow, they were great!

Cheers!

I you put a new TH on the bike (I assume it's the one in the pic), it was (is) pretty darn lean. Look at the discoloration of those pipes at the joint. Pretty awful, be happy that the engine is doing OK.

a 45 slow with a sporty needle and a 190-195 main would be my starting point

EDIT: Lose the Yost tube, messes more things up than it fixes.

Everyone tells me I'm running lean because of those pipes. I actually got the pipes that way off of ebay for $200. I now have them wrapped all the way to the collector which covers all of that. Since I wrapped them though, I have noticed more discoloration happening on the muffler portion of the exhaust. Some people tell me that means it's lean and others tell me that discoloration so far down the pipe actually means it is rich and the fuel is burning off in my muffler. I figured that the heat wrap must be keeping the exhaust hotter for longer which is causing the discoloration of the muffler??? So it seems the general concensus is a 45-46 low and 190-195 main jet. Also, what's the deal with the Sporty needle and why the Yost is bad?

How is your bike running now? what do the plugs look like? what exhaust was on it before the TH's?
Yost kits don't have a very good reputation around here, I have no experience with them so I can't tell you if they are good or not [&:] they do mess with the way fuel is emulsified before it is drawn up past the needle, could lean or richen the mixture going past the needle and that screws up the calibration of the rest of the fuel circuits.
do not determine A/F ratios by the color of your pipes.... your sparkplugs will tell you the situation, and do a search on reading plugs and learn how to read them properly, I really like this one;
