Default Oil filter help

Ok so same 64 pan that I posted about before. Managed to fix the electrical problems. I changed the oil in the bag when I rolled it out, but it has one of those aftermarket oil filters (external canister). I've tried everything six ways from Sunday to get the filter out and can't seems to do it. Tips?

Unscrew the nut from the bottom and the canister should slide off. Then loosen the lock nut from the stem and the filter should slide off. That is of course, if it was put together correctly in the first place. Here's a diagram, hope it helps..............
