Default Smoking Ban

Becoming a topic here in Northwest PA. Banning smoking in public places like bars, diners, etc. I would like to see if you have an opinion as to whether the state government should have control on this.

Do you support a law banning smoking in public places ??

Go somewhere else then.

Smoking IS legal, although I will admit it is a dirty, stinking, smelly, unhealthy habit.

I smoke. Can't STAND the smell of the house, when the wife has been home, smoking with the windows shut. Or smoking in the car, w/o rolling a window down.

I think it's time for the non-smokers to start showing respect to the smokers... for a long time smokers have sat away and did everything reasonable to make em happy... it's now time for the non-smokers to grow up... [&:]

I thought we were trying to ban smoking around here

I do not care, I guess it would assist me in quiting, so I guess I am for it.

It is like that here in CA, and has been for a while. I am used to it. I quit about a year and a half ago. Had nothing to do with that, but now that I don't smoke, I appreciate it...The city I live in has also made it illegal to smoke on the beach, and on the promenade which is a public outside mall. If I still smoke I would be livid, but since I don't I could care less...

I use to smoke but I don't now. No I don't agree with banning what you can do in public, Byran is right, why should you be allowed to wear your perfume, make offense farts that kills my sinus's but I can't smoke because it bothers you. Maybe I don't like the way you look, your body odor is offensive, your wife is ugly,I think you get my drift.

If it really is as bad as they say it is for your health, and so many die from it every year, then the better question would be..."WHY is it still legal?"

Don't get me wrong, I smoked 3 packs a day until my daughter was born 15 years ago, Quit cold turkey, and it almost killed me. I am not against smokers, but I am against a hypocritical government that won't do the right thing cause of the dollars they would lose. Money speaks louder than a million deaths...

One of my tenants is a neighborhood bar. Their business has dropped 40% since the smoking ban took affect last July. They may not be able to remain in business due to it. That means 6 people out of work, one business with the associated tax revenue gone, and my building is again vacant, ie. less tax revenue again plus less income for me.

Whether or not a business allows smoking or not is a matter of private property rights. The business owner has the right to decide who does what inside his business. Granted, there are times whennon-smokers should have a separate place. This can be managed with separately ventilated areas in larger establishments. Smaller establishments would not be subject to this restriction. Basically back to the way it was. Equal Freedoms for all.

If you want to ban smoking all together, grow a pair and make tobacco totally illegal.
