I'm not disputing the fact that a "lot" of people these days couldn't meet the requirements.
But haven't articles been posted about how branches of the military are allowing people with criminal records to enlist to meet their quotas?
I'm with the "take 'em and make 'em" train of thought even though I never served. People will either get in shape or be kicked out. I believe most would get in shape.

There is a lot of truth in this. The NFL is pushing their 60 minute play/exercise program. Other agencies have enticements for kids to play outside. Heck, drive by any middle school, (junior high), or high school at 3pm. The sheer number of fat kids walking down the street and/or hanging around waiting for a ride/bus is scary. I saw a group of 12/13 year olds walking in town, on their way home from school. The entire group stepped into the street, directly in front of on coming traffic. The nearest driver, a guy who looked to be about 70 or more, slammed on his brakes and hit his horn. Without missing a beat, the obvious leader of this little group turned to the driver, flipped him off then shouted to the guy suggesting he go have sex with himself. They all laughed and paraded across the street. The driver just sat there in shock. Some times I'm glad I'm old enough to not have to worry about what kind of world this coming generation is going to wrought.
I am a military recruiter - and some of you guys would be awfully surprised at the mindset of many applicants; it is very sad. I do see some very bright and intelligent guys and gals who want nothing more than to serve their country but more often than not - they are the exception. I would also say - that the standards for accession are much tougher to meet than they were even back when I came in.

Sad state of affairs. A whole generation of entitled little pr1cks who spend their lives sitting in front of a screen. My sitter makes $7.50 an hour, but bought her five year old a PSP for $250. MY parents would have laughed in my face if I requested a toy that expensive.
Most of the people in the Army are not as fit as they should be. They fail the height/weight requirements and have to get "taped"; they manage to get "on profile" (doctor's note) to avoid taking physical fitness tests; or they claim that the tests were not valid for one reason or another.
I served in the infantry (higher PT standards) and saw all too well the difference between the combat arms part of the Army and the combat support or combat service support parts of the Army. In most combat arms MOSs, you have to be fit or you can't do the job. But when your job is in a medical supply warehouse.......
