We were riding in Bryan, OH, last summer. We had to go through one of the check point charlies. They were stopping people in the middle of the street with all the cones etc. When I got up to the check point. I stopped. Shut off the bike. Took off my gloves etc. I got off my bike. In short I took my merry old time. They checked my license and to see if was drinking. Once they realized nothing was wrong. They let us proceed. I slowly got all of our stuff back together and got on our bike. Took my time starting it etc. I played their game, but I did it my way. Safely and courteously. I try to keep all my papers in order! But I know nothing nothing nothing, as Sgt Schulz use to say. Yes I am an old man!

They are doing the same thing here in NY. Stops on the way to events or bike nites. Why not on the way out where you can stop DUIs. Hardly ever see a cop on the way out. I stopped going to bike nites because it got to be a pain. The state police check point I went through they had a list because they did'nt know what to look for. I have a new bike and they still checked my vin# to my paperwork. I could see if the color was off or my tags were expired. That's what I call fighting crime.
I had a nice talk with a motorcycle officer today at one of my stops. I started off by asking if he had a 103 on his patrol. He just grinned and said yep but that they were going to the 110's when it was time to upgrade and boy was he smiling about it.
I then proceeded to talk motorcycles with him while he was waiting for his lunch and I asked what he thought about check points for motorcycles only. He looked at me like I was crazy. I then told him about what I had read and said in no way would he have done that. He rides in his personal time as well and he said that he would have a hard time being on that patrol if order to do it. He said that with all the motorcycle officers they have and all the guys that ride on the force that it would cause a big uproar with them.
We had a good discussion on a few other topics as well then his lunch arrived I thanked him for taking the time to talk with me and then talked with the owner of the place I was at and bought the officer's lunch. Least I could do for bothering him during his lunch break...lol
Noname, then things have changed. I ditched a truck in the ice one winter and a drug test was required. A freind of mine who operates municipal snow plow was ran into and he had to take the test as well.
I didn't mean to be so harsh, sorry. And that may well be the case but it's an employer requirement, not federal law. NoName
