I would like to have one of those.

We have gotten them from ABATE and or CoC attorney's that work with the motorcycle community.

I did give one of the 'cards' to a local groups of riders and they took it to a printing shop to have copies printed on small credit card size cards, and then gave these cards out to their membership.

The correct 'wording' is the main thing.. Here is a copy reduced down to credit card size. You could just have someone print a few out on heavy stock paper, or have a print shop make some up, laminate them, etc....

BTW, the information of the card does work for it's intended purpose.

a couple years ago my buddy and i were coming back from dinner, both riding, and a cop pulled up behind us at a stoplight. he flicks his lights on and shouts at us through a megaphone to pull to the side of the road and stop. we both just thought he was in a rush to nab someone else and needed to get through traffic. not so much. once we had pulled over he approached us with his hand on his sidearm. (!!) his mannerisms were very edgy and amped up, but we hadnt done anything wrong and were completely legal (DOT helmets, M endorsement, etc). after he questioned us (where we had been, where we were going and whatnot), he explained that "two bikers fitting out description" had commit a hit and run. wuh-oh. at some point he let us go.

i didnt take offense to the stop or the manner in which he stopped us because he was actually looking for people that fit our description. (how a skinny dude riding a sportbike with a passenger and a fat guy riding a vulcan matched anyone else's discription is a humorous mystery, but whatever.) we were profiled, but with good reason, IMO. i dont have a problem with that.

with regards to the OP... sounds like wrongful (illegal?) profiling to me. you cant target a group of people "just because" and pawn it off as looking out for their safety. i would be writing my congressman if i was in NC, or wherever they do that.

According to the way I read the article they didn't have a good reason for the checkpoints. I have already written to my congressman about this.

The state reworded the helmet law last year and they have pushed that on us hard. The problem is no 2 officers can tell you what is or isn't a "legal" helmet. I got stopped after a poker run one night and had my daughter with me and I was told my helmet had to be like her's. I had a beanie on and she had a fullface KBC. He also said all helmets had to have 3 inches of foam inside the helmet. Guess what no helmet in my house has 3 inches of foam. NOT EVEN the full face KBC...lol

The stops are to generate money pure and simple as well as harass motorcyclist.

If a half or 3/4 helmet is not good enough and we are forced to wear a full face then by God cagers better be required to wear 5 point safety belts!!

No place to turn around, no warning. And yes they will direct all bikes (an only bikes) off the road to check for license (valid with M endorsement), registration, and insurance. Just this past summer if you failed to have any one of the three, your bike was loaded on the back of a flatbed truck, and you were stuck with a ticket and a wait for a ride home. You got your bike back after you showed proof that you now have whatever it was you were missing and of course after you pay for the impound fees!! Last I checked if a cage got pulled over and had no insurance, the driver was ticketed and allowed to drive off!

IMO it is profiling. There are just as many cagers out there (if not more) driving with no license, no insurance, expired registration, etc. Oh but they have to be caught doing something else (speeding) before they can be pulled over and checked for that sh*t. What ever happened to leo needing probable cause, or needing to have reasonable suspicion in order to stop someone? What ever happened to the law that states that if your not under arrest (or being questioned in relation to a crime), a leo cannot detain you, and if he/she does so is considered unlawful detainment and a violation of your rights?
Just out of curiosity , my primary residence is in FL ( where we have no mandatory insurance on motorcycles , unless you want to ride without a lid) and have a home not far from you near Scott AFB ( Which is going to be up for sale real damn soon ). Just how would that local gestapo respond if I flashed my license & registration and just flashed a smile when asked for the insurance , saying it's not required where I hail from? Just curious , because I do have it and looking for a reason to be the one giving them a hard time for doing the damn witchhunt in the 1st place!

Your an out of state rider following the laws set forth by your state. I wouldnt think they could touch you, but I'm not willing to bet on that.

Why do you feel that the motorcycle only stops are any more wrong than the DOT stops for semi's? We as a very large group have brought this upon ourselves. Non-compliance with various items such as helmets and straight pipes are the main cause in my opinion and the insurance companies have a lot of influence also. The general public as well as your local or even federal political representative are in traffic with us when the rider with straight pipes makes it unbearable if not painful to one's hearing as we blat past them in traffic. We as a society have to be responsible with our freedoms or we will endanger it with rediculous regulations and un-neccessary traffic stops and subsequent fines. Please step back from yourself and evaluate your own actions and ask yourself, am I part of the problem or am I part of the solution to this future wave of enforcement?

So long as you are legal and sober you need not worry......

But back to the topic, doing a "bike-only" check is biased. In terms of fairness ALL vehicles should be checked!
