I've found that I sometimes get something like that, and all it will be is a gimick to get you to buy some software. They'll run a scan free for you, tell you that you have 367 malware or viruses, and give you the option to "clean" them up. Yet when you click on the "clean" button, they want to charge you $79.95 for one years use.

Then when I run Ad Aware, AVGFree, or some other program, nothing shows up as being a problem.

Malwarebytes worked great for me when I had a browser hijacker.

I've had Ad Aware find stuff that some of the other programs mentioned have missed. +1 on the recommendation.

A great free cleaner is Ewido. You can download it from the Avast site. Just use it on your computer but don't buy the updates.

I like Linux and tried to run it on my main system but it lacks in so many areas due to compatibility that I went back to WinXP.

I would also like to run it on my laptop but since I need a Windows OS to run TTS Mastertune for my bike program I'm back to WinXP again there.

Nice thing about Linux is almost no viruses and it's fast even on an older machine.

I still have xp for hyperterminal and thats it. I don't have a need for anything else from the windows folks. I have never had a issue with linux in 3 years it just works for everything else I do.

The cool thing to remember is we can run as many spyware type programs as we want but only one anti-virus program or the OS can get gummed up bad. FWIW.
