Default Share some interesting facts about where you live.

Jacksonville, FL is the largest city in the US land-wise (841 square miles) and I believe the 3rd largest in the entire world. Touring bikes are very well suited to "around town" riding here. Our river, the St. Johns, is one only a handful (forget how many) that flow North. The Nile isanother one that does and I believe there may be one more but I'm not sure.A neighboring city, St. Augustine, is the oldest city in the nation settled in the 1600's. Itis also currently the largestsettlement of Brits in the nation. We are also the home of the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Sacramento, California was built at zero ground level. We are surrounded by two major rivers.

Hense, it used to flood alot. As a result they buried the first city and built on top of it. Today you can still walk/visit areas of the original city that is below ground.

Also it is the Capital of Cali, not L.A.

Despite its image of an oasis with water and palm trees everywhere, Los Angeles is more like a desert, with an annual rainfall of only 15 inches (38 cm).

Los Angeles has more than 80 stage theaters and 300 museums, more than any U.S. city.

According to the 2000 Census, Los Angeles County has the largest population of any county in the United States. It has almost twice the population of the county with the nation's second largest population (Cook County, Illinois - encompassing the city of Chicago).

Temperature Mean over 80-year period 64.4

I wasn't aware the civil war started here. And yes, with the number of rebel flags I see flying I do believe it is still being fought.

Many revolutionary war battles were fought in Toms River where I grew up. Also Union in NJ has more cubans per sq. mile than Havanna Cuba.

It's hot here but it's dry. We ride year round. The desert is an awesome place if you study it. Plenty of open spaces. (Only 13 % of the land in Az is privately owned. The rest is all federal, i.e. reservations, national parks, forests, BLM, etc.)

I read alot about the tail of the dragon. However, I live about three miles from what has to be the best ride I've ever been on. It's a 27 mles stretch of road called Catalina Highway. It goes from an elevation of 2,000' to over 8,000' up to the top of Mt. Lemon. There's a neat mountain community up there called Summerhaven. There are many, many curves and switchbacks to get there. It is a newly, beautifully paved road. It is my daily, morning ride.

Anyone coming to or thru Tucson, I'd love to share it with you. We would have some pie and icecream at the top.

The Willamette River in Oregon is the other river that flows north.

Vancouver WA is the original settlement, Fort Vancouver,in the Pacific NW you can see two snow covered mountains year round, when the weather is clear, one, Mt St. Helens, is an active volcano. Mt. Hood has not done much lately but is a very popular destination for year round skiing as well as climbers and does claim many lives a year. On a really clear day if you are in the right spot you can see Mt Raineer, Mt Adams and the tip of Mt Jeffereson. This area of the country is often reffered to as God's country and for good reason too. It is beautiful year round.

Ken, I was speaking of where I live. Chucktown. However, that is debateable since my aunts great grandmother is credited with killing the solder that Lincoln sent across the river to remove the Confederate Flag from her back yard in Alexandria.

If you go down the St. Johns between Big Lake George and Little Lake George you will find a place called Ft. Gates. Civil War Hosp. Officers quarters and enlisted quaters.
