Default Called 911 yesterday

My wife and I walked over to the 7-11 for some water and juice. Well on the way out there was this older guy who was crawling on the ground and he had no pants on. He was naked from the waist down. He appeard to either be mentily disturbed or really drunk. So I figured this guy probably needs some kind of help. So I get the good old cell phone out and call 911. got a voice recording about if this is an emergency press 1 so I did. Then I got something I would have never expected. "Sorry, all of our operators are busy please stay on the line and we will be with you shortly". HOLY $HIT! I got put on hold for a 911 call.... 5 minuets later someone answerd the phone and I told them what was going on and they said they would send out the cops. What if this was a life or death emergency, like someone got shot or something like that. I was on hold for 5 minuets before I got to talk to anyone. I have really lost faith in our states and federal goverment now. By the way this is in California.

This is what happens when the counties give the contract to the lowest bidder, not all counties but many are contracting this service out to cut costs.
Also factor in for every auto accident you'll have sometimes hundreds of calls come in at once from cell phones, this causes a huge overload on an already archaic phone system and throws you into a que, hence the recording.

Yeah I called them once too...same result.

Image....It takes allyour strength just to call and the you get "press 1 if this is an emergancy"

Next you'll be calling India and having to work through a script "Sir did you take your hand out from under the saw? Is it bleeding? Oh you hand is no longer on your arm? did you unplug the saw? One moment while I see what to do next? I'm sorry I can't understand your gurgling...shall we start again?"[]

Well the upside to this whole story is that you got to stare at some stranger crawling around nude on his hands and knees for a while

You don't see that everyday.

Two weeks ago, in Long Beach, CA., I came upon a car fully engulfed in flames. It was in a remote area of the harbor. I instantly called 911 and was put on hold. Long story short, it took the fire dept. 10 minutes to get there.

I was trying to wave down these big semi-trucks to give me their fire-extinguishers, but they would keep going, only slowing down to watch the fire.

Fortunately, there was nobody in the car. It was stolen and torched.

That is absolutely rediculous. You are put on hold for an emergency?!?! How many frickin emergencies are there if you have to be put on hold?! I could understand more if it was a non-emergency and you were put on hold. That's pretty scary and I hope I never have to experience that if I'm ever involved in an emergency situation.
