My dates may be a little off, but I think the Sportster had a round air cleaner through about 1965. After that, the classic oval air cleaner was used through about 1978. The larger, rectangular one was introduced and was used through 1982, and the oval cleaner reappeared in 1983 and was used until 2003. As far as I know, the air cleaner to carb bolt pattern was the same from around 1966 until the CV carb came out in 1988. The big 79-'82 air cleaner was mainly the result of EPA noise regs.

the air cleaner fits all bendix khienin tillotson s+s carbs. its a stock factory air cleaner.it uses L-brackets and mounts to the heads

ok no more posting of pics.you guys always put me to shame.yall have some really clean bikes.some have originals some have chopped...i sorta just have a bike...a spray painted pieced togethre bike.
that bike is nice and it does look like it just rolled out of the factory.good job.

I doesn't matter how bike or airbox looks what is VERY important is that you have good and solid support bracket for airbox/carburator otherwise you have major problems with manifold leaks.
