according to my book there are 4 major parts -pump adj. screw------------idle mixture screw--------throttle stop screw-----rocker arm---is the pilot screw the same as the idle mixture screw or the pump adj. screw???????????
any tips on adjustments? went for a ride the other day, ran kind of bad then all of a sudden, ran perfectly out of the blue except idled real fast. Checked plugs @ home and they were all carboned up, plus bike seemed hot-need adj. tips------got any?
Before you start tinkering with the carb you had better check your intake manifold for leaks. That real fast, hot, idle smacks of the famous intake leak.

Help I can't ID the carb on my 76 ironhead-------------all it says is AMF Harley Davidson Japan ---any ideas and if so how to adjust-If it says Japan does it have to be a Kehin?????????????????????????????????/
Early 76 Ironheads had a bendix carb. In late 76 they introduced the Keihin. This was a butterfly carb not to be confused with the later Keihin CV carb on the evo's. They have had several models over the years. If it has a fully adjustable low speed mixture screw. (the one closest to the manifold flange) it is a 1976 model. If it has a plastic limiter cap it is off a 78 or 79 model. If the low speed needle is hidden by a plug it is an 80 or latter model. The 1976 model was the best of the bunch. They all came with a label telling the part number but that usually didn't survive cleaning. Set up properly they were basically fool proof. I ran one for 25 years and never had to readjust it.
