Default '09 backfire

hello,

had what sounded like a "backfire" out of the AC the other day. the bike is completely stock at this point and wondering why it would do that? also sounded once like a backfire out of the pipes but different day.

anyone experience this? trike goes in 25 september for the 1000 mile service wonder if this should be looked into?

thanks,

david

Definitely get it on record that it happened. If they can not find the cause at least if it rears it's ugly head again you have a record of when it started.

A little pop out of the AC can happen from time to time. I've only once had a bike that popped out the exhaust and that was a 05 Electraglide Classic. I was starting it up and pow a healthy bang from the exhaust, one and only time it did that.

Hey guys... I took the liberty to copy this out of the SEST manual. You may find it interesting and it should explain the intake pop.

Symptoms of a Rich or Lean AFR
The tuner should be familiar with the symptoms of an overly rich or overly lean AFR. The symptoms
are the signal to us that we have not achieved maximum performance – that we need to adjust the
EFI.

Lean running symptoms
• Bike hesitates when throttle is increased
• Bike runs jerky or surges at steady throttle openings
• Engine detonates, (knocks) when accelerating
Engine spits back or coughs through intake system
• Exhaust pipe deposits are light gray in color
• Bike runs poorly when cold – engine runs better as it warms up to operating temperature
• Spark plug color is white
• Fuel consumption is abnormally low

Rich running symptoms
• Engine blubbers when throttle is increased
• Bike emits black exhaust smoke, (a little black exhaust smoke is normal when accelerating
hard or operating engine when cold)
• Exhaust pipe deposits are dark, or black in color
• Engine blubbers at steady throttle
• Engine fouls spark plugs
• Bike runs well when cold – engine runs worse as it warms up to operating temperature
• Spark plug color is black
• Fuel consumption is abnormally high

happened in town ridding, i keep the RPMs up and run it hard. not going up or down hill and not shifting. will get it recorded at the 1k service. my pipes are turning blue and gold so i assume the thing is running lean and hot as mention on the board. this trike is a world of difference than a 2 wheel harley.

If its making your right leg warm as heck call Harley Davidsons customer service along with letting your dealer know. Sometimes just going to the dealer doesn't get a problem documented.
