Thats a good idea of replacing the top clamp with a one piece, as mine are the factory two piece. Are the replacement top clamps offered thru HD, or aftermarket?
Whoever put the bars on my bike installed them with rome kind of rubber insulatoron the risers where they pass through the tripleclamp. I assume this would abate cracking but the marshmallow-feeling steering blows. I was going to change that asap but after reading this I will be looking at upgrading the clamp as well.
I put on the WO 502's this past Dec and just noticed that the bushings that the risers fit into need to be replaced so will be doing that this week. As for the one piece top clamp, WO has those and risers for sale as well as the bars.

PsycleFreak; Don't you have to be running the risers matched to that top piece for them to fit right. My risers are straight at the screw holes, while your's is angled... I had a set like that on my 92 Dyna...
I'm running 16's on my FXSTC, but will have to check. I haven't seen em in months for all the crap that's bunjied to the front of the handlebars and hanging over..

Yeah,my risers are angled. Stockers. You will have to go to a top clamp that has the straight holes. I went to the 07 catalog and couldnt find any??Except these, and you have to buy the risers too. http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

A friend of mine has a Fatboy with 16" hangers (Chubbys)and he had the same loose or marshmellow feel with his bars. He put in the Wild One damper kit and nothing feels loose anymore.
WILD 1® POLYURETHANE DAMPER KITS
BUSHINGS, CHROME CUP WASHERS & SLEEVES
PART # WO801 soft
PART # WO802 hard
Upgrade kits provide excellent vibration damping and positive response. Replace rubber bushings and ugly cad plated cup washers with super durable polyurethane bushings and heavy duty chrome cup washers. Soft kit provides more firmness than stock rubber, great for low / medium rise bars. Hard kit is best for higher rise bars, tall risers and those who like a direct response.
(Kits do not work on Road King, Road Glide or Electra Glide models) Kit Retail Price, $24.95
There is also currently a recall on some '06 Wide Glides for cracking. I happened to be at the local Stealer recently when a guy brought his in and, sure enuff, they were cracked and he didn't even know it...
