Default RE: modular helmets

i have checked out the calberg and found it weak, for myway of thinking , and is not of my liking from this point of view.
similar comments on the nolan.

i think that the schuberth may be the best out there but it is heavy, heavy ,and you can read the reviews at webbikewolrd.com

the shoei is nice and the new bmw ,not sold in the usa becasue of our product liability laws ,is also great.but you have to get it in germany.

go out and see them all and compare them.

the schuberth you can see at any bmw dealer .the others are all over except the calberg which is hard to find ,but LIBBY"S in new heaven conn. carries it.

I've got the Nolan with the flip up sun shield on it, nice because I leave for work at 4:30 AM and come back at 3:00 PM pretty quiet on my road glide, light and comfortable, lot of air flow when you want it,also has a pretty neat double latch. I don't like full face because a friend had his neck broken when he was sliding down the road after a cager hit him, the lower part of the helmet caught on something and snapped his neck freck accident I know but spooked me on solid full face helmits. Dang spelling has gone to H#$$ tonight sorry

That's the one I'm thinking about. I used to wear a full face years ago. Got sick of the cocooned-in feeling so I now use a 3/4. I like the look and comfort of the 1/2 helmet, but don't like the idea of getting a mouth full of asphalt. Modular seems like the way to go and the sun shield is a good idea. Otherwise, its electrical tape across the top of the shield ala Dan Gurney circa 1960's.

Nolan N100 is my choice. Good venting (loos like a inverted NACA duct), colors that match the HD colors reasonably close.Fits my head without pressure spots and the liner comes outso you can toss it in the washing machine. Big added bonusis the minimal modification it takes to fit the head set from J&M or HD. I think itis the N102 that has thesunshade. Same features as the N100 excepth it took more work to fit the head set. I went back to the N100. Look at Dennis Kirk for more information includingweight.

I have a Caberg as well and I love it. One of the best built and functioning modular helmets on the market 2nd only to the Schuberth. I like the built in tinted shade part too. Flip of a switch and instant sun protection, flip it back when it gets dark. It works better than the Nolan system and since the tinted visor retracts inside the shell it is protected from scratches.

just a word to the wise, go to a big bike shop and try out a few first!!! i was dead set on getting a nolan, until i tried it on. wife didn't like it either. felt WAY too heavy for my liking. although i don't usually wear a helmet. i ended up buying a 3/4 helmet. it is a nelson. can't think of the brand name right now. it's really light and comfy. i put all of the headset gizmos in it. and best of all, it came in black cherry to match the wheels.

i do realize it won't protect the chin but i like it enough that i might go protected more often.

good luck.

HJC Modular - SyMax is a decent helmet. I have the H-D version. It's nice to be able to lift the chin bar at a stop or low speed. Traffic jams become a smoke break
