I used to get about 115 miles on one tank before reserve in my 03' 1200 custom with the 3.3 tank. My wife has a FI 883 and she gets about 140 miles before the low fuel light comes on. If we pull over right away and fill it up we put just over 2.5 gallons in it to fill it back up. Great gas mileage on those 883's.

good to know ... I can't wait for sun-up ... just got mine yesterday and I'm having a blast with it. Handles great ...
It also very much depends on HOW you ride the bike. I am almost always running at 80 to 90 MPH on the highway around where I live and I do NOT get anywhere near 50 MPG. If fact, today on my way to work on a 2007 XL883, the low fuel light came on at 68 miles from when I reset it to 0 and filled my gas tank up to the very top. I have gotten more than 50 MPG on this same bike but I was going the posted speed limit for a change. (Well for the most part anyway)

Holly hanna ... 80-90 mph! I was riding my new bike home today ...and near 60 mph I was getting near blown off the thing ... there was a head wind .. about 10-15 mph today near Englewood, FL on the gulf coast ... I slowed down to 50 ... and it felt just fine there. You must be a normal sized guy ... my beer gut must act like a sail or something ...
Normal sized? Oh, how I wish, my friend! I am way, way closer to 200 lbs now than to the 150 lbs that I used to be. (And, where I should be) Head winds, and especially cross winds are always a bit unnerving for motorcyclists in general. I have been riding street bikes for over 40 years now and I am kind of used to being buffeted by the wind. No faring for me please. (Although I do wear a full face helmet) Take care and enjoy your new toy! Sportster Rule!!!

Man ... I'm loving this bike. The 883 L sits nice ... and rides great. I am liking it more than I thought ... this might be a keeper! Gonna take a nice ride tomorrow to Punta Gorda .. about 60 miles or so round trip ... BTW ... I'm 245 ...and about 5-9 and shrinkin' with age ... doc says I need to get my weight down ... oh so hard at this point ...
You won't have a reserve on your bike, i have an '08 nightster, get the fuel light about 1/3 (3.3gal tank), so roughly 1 gallon left in tank. Depending on how i'm riding i'll get between 100-130 per fillup. About 80-90 miles before light comes, i fill up and hit about 1.6-2 gallons. I think.

Hold my beer and watch this...
My 08 low fuel light comes on around 75mi ?? - I know I've read here that there were problems with the low fuel light -- hopefully the 09 and 10 model have it all worked out
