The dealer rep must have mistaken the year of your bike for a newer one with a 96" engine.

I agree with his thinking U already have a 96, Our dealer last yr has a winter special for the 96 to 103 kit, cams (255's), flattops, jugs, labor, for $1700.
Any other work was more. the dynos they had showed most of those builds without head work netted 105/85 average...
My local HD dealer quoted me $1550 for the upgrade from 88" to 96". Said I couldn't get my bike to a bigger displacement without some serious alterations and $$.

Wait! The dealer made a mistake!! That doesn't happen! Is your dealer Conrads? I was in there last year. Nice place. Never had any experience with the staff but its a big dealer. Should have a decent staff. Right?

Yeah... it was just part of a phone discussion. Just "Gimme a ballpark number on what this might cost me." Not a firm quote with every detail thrown in. Hell, if I thought I could hold them to taking my bike from an 88 to a 103, doing it right, for $1,500 - my credit card would fly out of my pocket so fast my ass cheek would get whiplash!
I did talk to one of my indy guys about it. He talked about working with the motor & jugs I have - bore them out to 95, working the heads... said he could do a real nice job and put me over 100 hp for about $3,000 (which is more what I imagined it might cost me).
