The tech found some little things here and there, fixed them, tweaked some things... he did a very thorough job.

One of the problems with doing your own work all the time is that, unless you're an experienced HD mechanic, your main method of troubleshooting is noting that you're sitting on the side of the road with a dead bike. At that point, you fix whatever is broke, but... you might miss other things which are out of spec or about to go wrong.

I think I'll make sure to bring it in to the dealer at least once a year - even if it's just for a 5,000 mile service.

I agree. With something like that, I'd take it to an indy or the dealer. Electrical is something I've never been good at.
