I am thinking of leaving my bike in my unheated garage for the winter (NJ) while on my 5-6 month Florida stay. Last year it sat in a friends garage, but this year he's got a old car rebuild project going on...
Anyway, I have a roll of Tyvek home wrap 8' wide. I'm thinking if I make a bag of sorts, seal it with duct tape at all the seams. Then put a 40 watt light bulb in for moisture control, it would be pretty safe from the atmosphere.
So what do you think?
Before you say take it with me, the FXDWG has been patiently waiting in Florida since May and I miss it!
The light bulb idea is an old pilot trick (hang a 40-100 watt light bulb inside the cowling to help keep the engine oil warmer than air temperature). The only downside to this is that condensation builds up quickly inside the oil case inducing moisture into your engine.

Im in upstate NY myself and as long as you clean it up and remove the battery,you should be ok.Man just watch the mice if the garage isnt used much during the winter.They got at my wide glide last winter and I had to completely re wire the harness under the tank console.
The other thing I didn't mention is I live on one of Jerseys barrier Islands, I'm about 50' from the bay... It HAS to be out of the salt air here, I wash it at least once a week while I am here to keep it looking good.

You guys actually put your Harley's away for the winter? Here in the Florida Panhandle we ride ours all year long. The only white stuff here on the ground is sand. I learn some thing new every time I go on this forum. Come January I will be down at the beach looking for thongs on sweeties. Fossil

You need to read the whole thread friend, I only swap NJ beach with Florida beaches... I originally planned on having both bikes in both places, but its too much hassel every 6 months moving my toy box back'n'forth. It's a pretty big box nowadays...

This is only me and don't take this the wrong way but if i had the two bikes you have in the drive and the porsche and a house on the water in NJ and i spent the winter in fla. Id pull a few bucks out and have it stored at the local harley dealer in heated area or rent a heated storage unit for those months. But thats just me.
Iam in ohio keep mine at my dads in the winter heated garage and ride it all winter anytime the roads are clear of snow.
Winter storage, Bike in a bag. Wadda ya think?
