New helmet or no helmet argument

New helmet or no helmet argument
Well here's a new arguement for not wearing a helmet...LOL. On 7/17/09 I had an encounter with a deer. I had no helmet on and suffered head trama.
I was in a coma for 3.5 weeks with the bones in my leg, all my ribs, shoulder blade, clavical, eye socket, and facial bones (all on the left side) broken. Fortunately I missed out on most of the pain from the broken bones by being in the coma so long. Now had I been wearing a helmet I would have still had all the same injuries (except the head trama) and the pain to go with them. Just food for thought.
Personally, I'll wear a helmet from now on because I can't afford another $400K in hospital bills and I don't want to put my family through that again. I forgot to mention that I had to be airlifted to the trama center and I quit breathing in route. But hey I'm still here and by next spring I should be able to ride again

Back in the day in the UK when there were no helmet laws, I for some reason borrowed a helmet from a friend to go up a single track road and when i pulled on the front brake coming down a slope the front wheel decided to go one way and i the other..face full of tarmac but no injury, yes I've always been this ugly, had i not worn the helmet might have been even uglier so still unsure as to are helmets necessary or are they just for the careless. Its the only time i needed one but if you feel more secure its for you and if not you take your chances but I guess what I'm trying to say is it should be a matter of personal choice.

Congrats on being able to make a recovery...I know the feeling. Recently planted my face in the asphalt riding at work. Broken jaw, arm, wrist, teeth busted out etc etc. After some surgery I was back to work in 3 months but I'm still undergoing treatment. Yea, I'm thinking those gouges in my helmet would have made a difference to my recovery had I not been wearing it!!!
