You have all been very helpful :-) I love this community!!!

I have 3 bikes in mind: first choice is a St. Bob (as everybody knows now lol), then a 883L and the Nightster. These are the three bikes that attract me....

I'm gonna take the MSF course asap. Then when I get my license, I will go to my dealership and try these 3 bikes I like Sounds like a good plan!

Hey take the class first, then get your license, go to the dealership and get the bike that suits you the BEST! Just bought my first HD, went with a rocker c, never road any street legal bike in my life prior to the class and now I cruise the Island every chance I get. Have fun and be safe with what ever bike you choose!

... the one factor not mentioned ... "affordability" ... Life is Good for us Harley riders ... (or we are delusional ... I vote for the latter).

Going to say something a bit more practical.

First get some training if you have not already done it.

Then think about the differences betwen the 125 dirt bike the harley (which ever you chose). First off the weight. Once rolling the weight makes no difference, if you drop it you instantly find the difference. Handling, you will need a different riding style on a cruiser than a dirt bike. Be prepared for it not to handle so quick in corners and be aware fo the ground clearence on bends. Also get used to the brakes. The harleys brakes with the weight may not stop you as quick as the 125. Speed and power, The Harley will have a lot more, becareful till you get used to it. To be honest, if you do a bit of traing and know how to handle a bike then size, weight and power does not come into it. The problems are that different bikes require different techniques to riding them, you cannot ride a cruiser like a sports bike like a dirt bike. Each has there own characteristics and methods. For example on a cruiser with forward controls it is hard to shift your weight and try and get your kneee down to take a hairpin!

As for which Harley, go for the one the one that makes you smile just looking at it on your drive, and does what you want it to do. Every Harley rider has an opinion on which model and year is best!

Good luck!

That is an important factor as well. I'm not making lot's of money...alas my choice will be limited for my first bike me think.
