My ACC is excellent. At first I was a little worried by the foam pad and velcro setup, but it lets you customize the inside for your head shape. It doesn't seem very cushy like a lot of others, but I hardly know I have it on when riding.

I may be going to hell in a bucket, babe, but at least I'm enjoying the ride.

I have an ACC DOT half helmet and an ACC novelty half helmet. The novelty is smaller of course, but I think the DOT one actually looks better on my head and has a more comfortable latch. Plus the carbon fiber weave looks cool and is very light.
I don't use them much but have them just in case Fla. helmet laws change or if I go out of state.

Good write up but I did notice the ACC was a size; small, and the Daytona was a Med size, makes me wonder what the difference would be if the helmets sizes where the same.

The Daytona should be bigger cause its a bigger size helmet.

Best would be to compare the same size lids to get an Apple to Apple comparison.

Just cause one brand is a size small, and another brand is size medium, doesn't mean the medium fits bigger than the small. Doesn't work like that between different brands. Size small in brand x may be same size as a medium in brand y.

First, the stats (keep in mind that each manufacturer sizes their helmets differently; my noggin measures 21 7/8"):

NOTE: All measurements taken from actual helmets in hand.

Advanced Carbon Composites Extended Half - Red Candy (Size: Small)
Composition: Carbon Fiber & Kevlar
Length: 9 7/8"
Width: 8 1/4"
Height: 5 13/16"
MSRP: $185.00

Daytona DOT Skull Cap 1/2 Shell - Red Flames (D6-RDF, Size:Medium)
Composition: Unknown
Length: 10 3/8"
Width: 9"
Height: 5 15/16"
MSRP: $85.95

While the heights of both helmets are fairly similar, more of your head fits into the ACC helmet. Also, ACC provides head band-type foam of various thicknesses so that you may custom-fit the helmet to your head; Daytona does not. The mushroom effect is most noticable with the Daytona. Not so for the ACC; it looks like you're wearing a non-DOT helmet. ACC is the keeper for me.
I found the HCI DOT Shorty to be the smallest and the one sitting the lowest on my head. Bought it for 39 bucks.

To make a blanket statement like that, you would have needed to try on ALL helmets. Did you do so?

I merely compared 2 DOT helmets, one of which claims to be "the smallest DOT Half Shell Helmet ever made" (clearly, it is not). ACC's unique use of Carbon Fiber & Kevlar allows for a thinner inner membrane thus resulting in a smaller outer shell. Pretty hard to beat using standard materials most other manufacturers use and still be able to meet DOT certifications.

I like the idea of the Carbon Fiber. Light and very strong. I've got to look into them.

Of course not, but I tried on the ones claiming to be the smallest, and this includes the ACC and Daytona. Anyway, this was my finding, others may have a different one.

I've been wearing an ACC novelty for 3 years now. There is one BIG difference between the HCI and the ACC! The ACC is Carbon and Kevlar! Carbon is light and flexible but I've seen it slinter like fiberglass. You weave kevlar into it and you have light and strong. Just ordered an ACC DOT today.

Exactly. Most manufactures make 1 or 2 shells and make the sizes with the foam inside the shell. With that, a small would appear 'thicker' than a medium.
