I attended the million mile gathering at hals and it was a great event. It was nice to see actual bikers at a dealer; lots of colors and IBA folks. A nice mix showing their respect. At least one HD upper level type was present and he had known Dave for some time because of various warranty/repair issues. He said Daves bike was going to the national motorcycle museum in Stugis SD, and that HD was presenting him with a Road Glide on Monday. Lots of interesting tidbits were told by the various speakers. Dave went through 17 stators in his 1 M miles and 4 seats. His mechanic was there and said that he had replaced enough parts to fill a semi. Dave did mention that he had kept records of all of his expenses for the last M miles and that he even had a box or 2 of gas reciepts and that he had save anvery one. I think it was an awesome accomplishment and just wish that I had the time, and money, to ride that much. all in all, very cool!

Subject: Former Senator Dave Zien Completes Million Mile Journey
Thanks to everyone who came out to cheer Dave on as he turned his 1991 FXRT to 00000 for the 10th time! I love TMJ4's anaolgy that Dave's appearance is combination of Mad Max and Moses.....
On April 6th, Harley Davidson presented Dave with a 2009 FLHXR for his Million Mile Bike that they plan to put in the Sturgis Hall of Fame. Today he is struggling to come to terms with leaving his bike (that he considers his good friend) behind.
These are a few links with some highlights. A special thanks to Hal's H-D who hosted the eventand Hupy and Abraham for sponsoring the ride and landing party.
I ran into Dave Zein at my local dealer. I was having some end of the season work done to the bike and up rides the white bearded man who just about lives on two wheels. We got to talking and now that he has completed one million miles on his old Tour Glide, he wants to be the first man to ride over 100,000 miles in two consecutive years (80,000 so far this year on his 2010 (09?) Road Glide. When he left he was riding from Milwaukee to Madison (WI) to meet some friends. Watching his black duster coat stream behind him as he rode off into that cold gray clouded November day, I thought...now that is one dedicated biker.

The image of Senator Dave Zien on his Harley with no helmet and the American flag flapping in the wind irritated Wisconsin liberals to no end. His million mile record is well documented. Doubters can read this. http://www.thunderpress.net/MONTH_AR...onMileMa.shtml
He must not have any nerves in his ass to be able to sit in the saddle that much.It will be interesting to hear what he thinks of his new bike compared to his old one. Just the regular maintenance must be a killer for that many miles. Harley should pay him to evaluate any parts for faults or defects. He must be tough, I would bet any machine designed to test things, would have worn out or broke before it hit a million miles.
