Yes, this is a tech question so hope no one is offended.
Recently installed an Andrews EV46 cam into an 94 EVO. All went well and now it's time to deal wit the carb. I like the CV carb and wish to rejet it. Am confused about ALL the possible mods that one can perform with this carb. I bought a recalibration kit which includes jets, needles, drill bits, a new diaphram spring and my question is: "Is all this really necessary"? Back in the day, you popped in a new jets and off you go.
Have taken in a variety if opinions. Some state "stay away from the recalibration kit". Others swear by it.
Was wondering what some of you have done in the past.
Suppose a little more info would help. It's a 94 stock EVO. Replaced the cam (as mentioned), installed new Rheinhart exhaust (true duals). Upgraded the coil and wires. Thats it in a nut shell. Was going to have the heads modified but wanted to see how this set up works first, plus it's the beginning of the riding season and I am impatient.
All responses will be appreciated.
Thanks again. Great site!

I have the equivalent cam from Andrews, .050" shaved heads. Change the spring, and needle with the clip at the third groove. It's not hard, but take care not to puncture the diaphram when you put it back in. 180 main jet works for me. I think the midrange jet is a 46.

Look at it this way, you bought the kit and are taking the carb apart. Why not put the new stuff in. Follow the instructions and go for it. Sure can't hurt and it beats pulling it apart later when you could have done it all at once.

+1 on the nightrider site, I'd put the kit in as a last resort. Buy a few sets of champion plugs (RN12YC) I believe that's the plug for evo's. Make your adjustments, record them, read the plugs after 50 -100 miles, prior to installing the plugs use a little bit of anti -seize if they are going to be removed and installed a few times. Let us know how it worked out.
