A couple years ago a bunch of us did our annual gig to the PA Grand Canyon, we stay at a small campground just off the rim of the park.
As normal we parked the bikes for the night, did some parting and went to bed.
Woke up the next morning, all the bikes were still there and three more from this group from Jersey. They had their bikes all chained together with this big ole honkin chain through the front wheels of each bike.
We all got up and were millin around when they came out and started thier unchainin and packin. Onee come over asked us about how we could just leave our bikes all just parked without "security".
I really think he got a little un nerved when he was told not only weren't they locked up, but every one of them had the ignitions unlocked and ready to ride.
The three to the right of Nips hack are theirs all purty chained up.

Hey 21st b-day is a couple weeks away so cant carry just yet. Although my Kimber .45 is all ready to go, cant wait to have that extra security on my long rides in the future
No, it is not just a motorcycle. It is my motorcycle. I have never broke even with anything dealing with insurance. I did not spend all this time or money to make both of these bikes my own to donate them to a lowlife motorcycle thief that wants to profit from my loss. I am always glad to see people leave easier targets for the thieves---which makes my target less desirable. I read these post and they offer different ideas or options. The key to all of this conversation is that everyone does what makes them comfortable when it comes to securing their bike.

It's just a motorcycle. plain and simple. Someone wants your bike, its gone, no matter what you do or try to do.
Hell you get stupid when they go to take it, and they may take your life with it.
But in the end they are gonna get the bike. So why stress it?
I own and ride motorcycles for the enjoyment, and I am not gonna let the fear of someone taking the bike ruin that enjoyment.
The ones I love to see are the "I'll put it in the room" types....man that is downright paranoya. sheesh.
I have rode motorcycles from coast to coast and border to border, parked em at night and got up the next morning and rode on. Never, let me repeat that, NEVER had one bothered.
All it takes is a bit of common sense.
You want to feel secure...spend the night at a motel where you can park the bike right outside your room, then take about $0.10 worth of monofiliment fishing line, attach it to the bike, then run it through the door jamb and tie it to a lamp in the room. they move the bike the lamp falls over and wakes you up.
Its a whole lot easier running that fishing line than muscling a 1000 pounds of bike through a doorway. safer on the painted tins too.

Paranoia--not really. You act like it is a big deal or hard to get a motorcycle into the room. You type like me putting the bike in the room lessens my enjoyment of owning a bike. I like looking at them and I sleep restfully with the bike in the room and the pistol by the bed. What does it matter to you if I put it in the room? Once again it might be just a motorcycle to you but my motorcycle is mine and I will put it where I want and there isn't anything you can type or do that will change that. You come into my room to do me harm or to steal my bike at night and how do you think that is going to end? I am just making you the easiest target and you should be okay with that because I am.

More than likely with you dead...they will be wide awake coming through that door with their gun in their hand, and you will be attempting to wake up to grab yours. If they want it bad enough to come through the door to get it, my bet is they will be well prepared and they are gonna take it.
I am in no way an easier target, and I am sure enough not stupid enough to make a vehicle theft escalate into a home invasion(well motel room invasion), just to protect "my bike".
I like the bike, and I have done a lot to make it "my bike", but I sure haven't made it worth risking my life. What I have done is Insure it for full replacement value including all the extras, and I would have no problem spending that insurance check on a new one.
I could care less if you wanna drag a motorcycle into the room with you, what I said was I think its funny that folks would let paranoia cause them to act differently other than using plain old common sense when parking a motorcycle.
As the old saying goes......... whatever floats your boat (well airboat in your case)

Why would someone break into a room to take my motorcycle with the possibility of me being armed ,which I am when yours is unlocked in the parking lot? Surely yours and your friends bikes would fill their needs since they are unlocked and wouldn't be defended. Most cowardly thieves would not risk that much when yours is there for the picking. I am not dead yet , so things have worked out so far and I am willing to kill someone trying to harm me or steal my property. Must be a Texas thing. The way I was raised we don't just give up our property or our lives without a fight. Whatever works for you is okay with me also. When we were at ROT rally last year a friend had his bike stolen outside of his motel from the parking lot. His insurance didn't cover the rental car for him to get home and he was not satisfied with his settlement. This is something I know and not something I heard. The thieves got busted later on in the year but that didn't matter . His bike was parted out and mostly gone.
