I have used the red Sears jack since 2004 and I have not had one issue with it.

I think the trick to it is to pump it up to where you want it, lock the safety bar into place in front of one of the stops on the jacks frame and lower the jack until it does not move anymore.

Then there is no pressure on the bottle jack. I think by leaving pressure on the bottle jack for long periods of time causes a lot of the problems associated with the jack.

Of course, going over the fasteners every once in awhile helps too.

I don't know about Wal Mart, but I picked up mine at Sams Club. It's labeled Good Year, but I'm sure it actually made by Torin, or one of the other discount manufacturers. Lasted me 5 years now, no problems, and I have used it a lot.

I bought the red jack last year.I got it for $59.99 the day after Thanksgiving.I have used it at least 10 times and it woks just fine.I have not had any problems with it at all.
