I had the red jack before, and it is higher than the yellow one. To lift my fatboy, I would
have to roll it onto boards and put a block under the jiffy stand in order to get the jack under it.
It would just barely fit under my Goldwing. It says they are rated for 1500 lbs...so it
should handle most anything I will ever ride.
A jack sure does make cleaning wheels easier and oil changes much simpler.
The yellow jack feels about 20 lbs lighter than the red one also...
That matters to me since I park my bike in a shed, I sometimes have to lift the jack
up-and-over stuff.
The link above states a price of $169, but Sears usually has a sale, and last week if you are a member of the 'craftsman club'...the jack sold for $139.
Depending on your frame height, you might get away with one of the other jacks.....?

Do any of you guys secure the bike with straps to the floor or a fixed object? Or do you just leave it "balanced" on the jack? It looks a little precarious up there.

If I were the man I was five years ago, I'd take a FLAMETHROWER to this place!!
It comes with two tie down straps. I use them to attach the bike to the jack when I want to roll it around. For just polishing the wheels or changing fluids I don't bother.

I don't think oil is gonna change the lowering behavior, I believe it's just the way the piston valve/handle is engineered. One things for sure that valve is like a "light switch" it's either full off, or full ON..... I very easily crack the handle CCW so as to not let the bike come slammin' down too fast. The first time I opened the valve I crapped my shorts it cam down so fast....

It's actually not like a "light switch"....I can lower mine at a completely controlled rate. I can lower is slow enough that you can hardly tell it's coming down if I want....but always controlled. I learned early on (after getting hollered at) that the quickest way to ruin seals (or minimize life of seals) in a jack is to overtighten them. As long as you don't overtighten before raising the bike (or car, truck, etc.), you can completely control the rate of descent. I learned the hard way after rebuilding a jack that I ruined (2.5 ton floor jack) by continuously overtightening. I use my yellow craftsman jack daily because it allows me to have the bike in the garage without taking up precious floor space. When I'm ready to ride, I'll pull the bike (on the jack without straps) about 3 feet....lower the bike off of the jack, get the jack outta the way and back out of the garage. When I return, I pull straight in, place the jack under the bike, jack it up, and push it out of the way. It remains on the jack until I ride the next time. And yes, this jack works fine with an Ultra....the only thing I've noticed is that the center of gravity changes when I remove the bags (when washing the bike).
